Oh yes, she’s a lab all right !

I’ve just done some checking around. Pup prices have shot up exponentially over the last 12 months, so that my $1,500 price estimate is completely obsolete. It’s looking more like twice that and more — $3K to $5K, which is ridiculous but there you go !

Thanks Perc. It would be one thing to state upfront what you are going to charge but to take your order and then add $2K seems a bit rich, that’s what put me off.

Looks like she is making some progress with the beagle today after lunch.

We have had a bit of a setback today with Rocky. His incision is still a bit swollen and needed to be checked again and the vet was happy to leave it alone and not drain it. It should settle soon though. But the problem is Rocky started to develop a cough so got them to check him while we were there and they think it is kennel cough. We have not been in contact with any other dogs or really out of the house with him so we think he has picked it up at the vets. He seems to be doing alright and is on antibiotics to clear it up but the timing has not been great. He is a tough boy though so hopefully it will clear up soon. Took this photo of him yesterday. He was staring at me like that for about 5mins.

You’re having a rough trot!
(Reckon you can just about read his mind! Think the poor boy has had enough of it all.)
Will be hoping that it all turns around soon and he’s back to his old self.
Gentle hugs to Rocky.

That’s lovely to see. Our older dogs were always a bit hesitant around new puppies initially. It usually took about a week, after which time they became best mates. I think the sharp puppy teeth & distinct puppy smell doesn’t help.
Good luck with your search. I agree that increasing the agreed price is unethical.
We’ve had 2 gorgeous golden labs- both real characters. Currently we have 2 black labs in neighbouring houses. Both beautiful dogs.

Pep is looking somewhat better. Still can’t stand but she’s wagging, she’s eating, pricking her ears up.
Still super aenemic, very laboured breathing. Waiting on more bloods. But she will live.

Fantastic!

Do they know what the problem is?

Best guess is rat poison - essentially anti-coagulant, they bleed out internally.

I found a dying rat under the cubby, the day before she got sick.
We’ve never had rat poison, and neighbours on that side denying all knowledge.
Worrying.

Rats can travel a distance post poison looking for water

Rats who get poisoned can travel quite a long way - the poison makes them get thirsty, and they go looking for water. It’s very easy for something to catch a (slow-moving) poisoned rat or mouse and get a dose themselves.

Owls and frogmouths etc are prone to copping accidental doses this way too. Use traps rather than poison, please everyone!

Glad to hear that, HAP.!

Yep, we found a mouse drowned in our dog’s water bowl about a week ago. There are heaps of rats and mice around at the moment (got some in my roof apparently), so there’s a good chance that someone in the neighbourhood has baited them and the dog has had a nibble.

Vets now less sure of the rat bait hypothesis. Asking about snakes.

I’ve never seen a snake at our joint, it’s 1/4 acre of very bland suburbia. I guess one could be under the kids’ cubby, but would a venomous snake have left a rat to die? Doesn’t add up.

I hope she’s improving @Henry_s_Angry_Pills .If only they could tell us! I guess snakes can be anywhere really but the rat connection sounds almost too coincidental.
Fingers crossed that she recovers quickly and well. Keep us posted-we’re all thinking of you.

Some clown on Newsmax did a segment about how Biden’s rescue dog wasn’t fit to be a presidential dog, talking about how it looked unkempt and scruffy.

Have they seen the previous President?
