The Gold Coast is gods country. It has the great QLD warm and broadly sunny days year around. It has arguably the best stretch of beaches in Australia.
It offers all the great benefits of a bustling, thriving city without the cold inconsistent weather, stress, congestion, anxious and broadly depressed folk trudging through the daily grind.
It now has terrific variety of cafes and restaurants. The residents are generally much happier and certainly more easy going. There’s more smiling and less drab facial expression.
It offers sophisticated large hospitals and healthcare, wonderful doctors and specialists, albeit a system being stretched due to years of underfunding.
It is truly heaven on earth. And the folk don’t just wear depressing black, grey and dark colours and no puffer jackets!
And finally, AFL is alive up here with plenty of Bomber fans around the place. You don’t need to go far to chat about footy. AFL fans everywhere.
I was in Broadbeach for a week for work a couple of months back (I actually randomly bumped into Mark Jacko Jackson up there and told him I loved his interview with Mike Sheehan ) and I really enjoyed it!
You get the chilled out vibe of Surfers Paradise but with a bit of a more mature crowd. Plenty of great restaurants and bars and it really pops at night. Could live up there without any trouble at all.
And the weather… I mean as a Melburnian, spending time up there in late winter early spring is such a pleasure.
I’m actually in the hinterland edge now…about to head off on a 3 day motorbike bike ride down to northern NSW.
I get what you’re saying - have been down your way many times (just as an aside Carrara is a ■■■■ stadium to watch footy - especially at night. Got down to 1° last time I was there !!)
On the other hand I walked the Noosa National Park last week to Hells Gate- awesome! Dolphins, sea eagles, turtles, koalas - surfers in each bay and spectacular views out to sea.
Picture book perfect.
I do think we can all agree a Qld lifestyle is pretty amazing (apart from the lack of AFL news/interest. Fortunately there are airports in both of our areas that will fly you to any game in just a few hours)
Yep, I called it that, and I live 1 hour’s drive to the north. 2 hours on a bad day on the Pac Mwy. I’ll admit the GC has its good points, already have, and I’m sure it’s improved in terms of diversity and leisure options, etc. I could happily live in the hinterland. That football stadium though, or more accurately, getting there and out again, is fkg abysmal. I’ve spent nearly half my life in QLD and I’m in no hurry to move back to Melbourne. All of the major cities have grown way too much for my liking, but that’s for another thread.
Some exciting plans there. Seamlessly merging the beach into the esplanade is great. And more green spaces.
I think they should extend the revitalisation to Orchid Ave too. I think Orchid has the potential to be cleaned up a bit and become a wonderful tree lined boulevard with more quality restaurants and cafes.
