The Great Blitz Album Survey…Favourite Albums Across The Years…The 60s

OK here’s my list.

Gotta say I expected more of the 60s. Makes the Beatles look a bit like Hirdy circa 2005-2007: a superstar but surrounded by a few too many plodders.

Still, in preparing this, I discovered a couple of albums that I’ll listen to again (eg Easybeats).

2 - Evlis Presley - Elvis is Back
1 - Bill Haley and His Comets

1961

3 - Del Shannon - Runaway
2 - Roy Orbison - Lonely and Blue
1 - Chubby Checker - Let’s Twist Again

As per OP, compilations do not qualify…please amend and tag me when you’ve done so.

Also, there are threads covering the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s (so far) if you want to have a go at any of them

Which album?

Thanks, I’ve updated my post. Its a weak 3-voter, a bit like getting BOG on a rainy day against Carlton.

The thing fascinating about the 60s is the clear evolution of new styles each year, even within broader genres. Transitions in jazz, rock, soul, pop. And just the rise and rise of the album in general.

I think there are three very good and clear reasons for this.

1 - L
2 - S
3 - D

Yeah, at the start of the 60s, there were lots of people just singing other people’s songs, by the end of the 60s music took a form which probably lasted until the death of the CD circa 2010.

There was a rise in the quality of home hifi that coincided with it to. This peaked in the early 70s. Often referred to as the golden age of hifi.

Cut the man some slack… Doggy’s in the process of cutting down 38,735 shortlisted albums to just 30… it’s a slog…

30…I only want three…it’s his fault for owning every album released in the 60s and a whole lot that weren’t even released.

His list better be good

Incidentally, why is it PMSL, and not PML? It’s a failure of acronymisation, it is.
These are questions that need to be asked.

I think cos people were constantly getting it mixed up with progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.

No such album

Del Shannon’s version of the song Runaround Sue was released in 1963.

Do you mean “Runaway with Del Shannon” which was released in 1961?
