jeez…another @Doggatron post with the list…stop dilly dallying Doggie and get on with it.
Man…this reminds of being back at school and my own personal rule against doing homework…
I would actually be disappointed if your list was all “rare gems”
Great albums deserve to get listed if they’re your favourites from a particular year.
Yep , sorry, corrected post.
I only spent 5 months in the sixties, but I time travel there frequently via my record/cd collection.
Yes…there’s so much good music around (in every era).
I’ve always wondered at people who get stuck just listening to a particular period.
Why wouldn’t you keep listening to “new” stuff if it’s there to be heard?
It’s still out there but much harder to find, despite the inter-webs.
In the 60’s and 70’s a lot of the good music was also the popular music.
It was just one I never listened to much.
Very hard. Tried to keep it to records I own. That didnt really make it any easier.
The back half of this decade and the first half of the next is my favourite era of music. According to the logic of some here it should not be…due solely to my complete and total lack of existence during the period (a concept I find odd…Im aware of a lot of things that occured before I was born). But I’ve always been fascinated by this era since I was a kid. Theres so much colour. So much flavour. Sonically for me its the most pleasing era from a production standpoint. It so very organic, devoid of anything digital and bathes the listener in an analog warmth. Creatively the growth the 60s is unmatched to any other decade. It’s a cliche, but it’s regarded as a cornerstone for very good reason. And all these sonic and creative wonders transcend and span the width of all genres. Having said all this horseshit…my list does appear rather Blues heavy…

John Lee Hooker in ‘60, ‘62, ‘63, ‘66… I needed stuff for ‘61 and really enjoyed an album of his from that year, The Folk Lore Of…, really stripped down. I saw it wasn’t that regarded but I fully dug it. I should try some others.
Yeah…that’s a nice list…plenty of stuff for me to go and hunt down.
(only one disappointing entry…but that’s just my opinion on that particular album which I find to be highly overrated).
…cmon…don’t be shy.
Mine would be every eligible Beatles album, two Leonard Cohen albums, and Astral Weeks.
I don’t think it’s really worth it.
Astral Weeks…Van Morrison sh*ts me to tears.
It all helps the final survey results so send them through.
(you can leave astral weeks out though )
It’s a lovely album, it really is.
We’ll put that in the same pigeon hole as our David Gilmour/Roger Waters “discussions”
Hes just so raw. Its heavy as hell. But sweet as can be. His voice is just otherworldly. So primal.
The problem with Hook is his discography is a total shamozzle. So many best ofs mixed with bad sounding weak studio albums with cracking pearlers mixed in.
66’s Serves You Right To Suffer is a great album.
To be honest, I do think the album does trail off a bit. But i do still love it and think its a very beautiful record.
Fine.
