pretty much 100% disagree.
The list just isnt built for the modern game period.
2 way running mids are the meat and potatoes of the sport. The rest are just details. Cant think of more than 2-3 footballers of the quality you need on our list - and you need half a dozen of em in the 1âs alone.
Im talking about building a list to win a flag. The ceiling of our current list is very low. TBO, cant see it winning a final and teams keep upping the full ground pressure, we are a genuine bottom 4 show.
Dodoro has been a complete failure and absolutely been there much too long. What does X do - promotes the bloke.

KOur season is over, but whatâs worse is the fact that weâll continually play guys who are past it and have had plenty of chances. Langford, Redman, Laverde, Francis, Clarke, Ridley, Mutch, Guelfi, Begley, Thatcher and Draper once he develops a bit more. Thereâs a heck of a lot of talent there. Play them!!!
FFS As an example a bloke like Redman has been on the list for 3 years and hasnât had a proper go yet. What the â â â â are we waiting for? See what he can do. But no weâll go with J Merrett or Baguley

Forget the marketing rubbish, if a current club director is going to post on this thread, the question has to be asked re the senior coach extension and potential $$$ fallout from that.
Was the board unanimous on the extention?
What, and hereâs one - âdue diligenceâ was done prior to offering this man effectively 3 further seasons.

outside of the GC, we have the longest stretch of not winning a final in the AFL.
Dodoro has been head of the list management/recruiting team the whole time - FOURTEEN Years.
Hard to argue with is promotion this year

Depends how you measure it.
We moved 31 players off the list since 2015 (ignoring the ones we then put back on the list), which is 70% or close enough to 3/4 of a 44 man list, but a reasonable number of those have been been guys who came on and on the list within 1-2 years.
We have 19 players on the list who were on the list in 2015, which is about 55% turnover. Some points of comparison hawthorn have 22 players, geelong have 17, richmond have 26, carlton have 12.

Essendon are stuck in the 90s. We think that bookends are the most important part of a team. They absolutely are not. We have been of the few clubs that still think a great spine is the key to winning flags. That honestly hasnât been the case probably since the last time we won a flag.
Midfields now win you flags, and of you have a half decent tall forward and defender that will be enough. Cameron Mooney was the FF in Geelongs flags, for gods sake. Richmond last year didnât have a key tall forward. However what they did have was a squadron of fit hungry midfielders who run both ways and are prepared to put the pressure on, and most importantly, have the elite foot skills skills to break the game open on the rebound.
Recruiting from now on should be based purely on these four questions:
- Are you a midfielder? Yes, then:
- Are you an insanely durable two way runner? Yes, then:
- Do you have absolutely elite foot skills? Yes, then:
- Are you sure youâre actually a farking MIDFIELDER and not a half forward flanker?

And if anyone doubts this, think about this. Who was the full forward in Sydneyâs premiership side? Or the full forward in West Coastâs flag? Or Collingwoodâs? Or the Dogs? Or hell, even Geelongâs?
All spuds. Most of you will remember who they were. However all of you remember the midfields. Because they were the stars. Thatâs where the flag was won. And this has been the case honestly since 2001 when Brisbane beat us with Voss, Aker, Lappin and Black.
