The Inevitable Rebuild

Thats going to be hard when weve signed up the main culprits to long term deals

Indeed, but don’t blame Worzel for that - he had no say in the signings. The only answer is to take a hit on the basic salary payments and play the culprits in the Magoos, with no AFL match fees, till they demand a transfer out.

And sack Dodoro.

We’ll go no where with Scott a proven dud
He had an ordinary stint at North and 2 years as a desk Johnny at the AFL
And they are supposed to have the credentials that will lead us to a premiership
AFL plant

Yeah that ain’t happening seeing as though he was the bloke that injected the virus into the club

Has he?

Don’t know why people don’t outline the Suns as an example why a rebuild doesn’t work just based on going to the draft.

They have had multiple top 10 picks, draft concessions, coach changes and still stuck in no mans land.

It just shows until you change the culture and have mature players who can lead the way then there isn’t much point continuously seeking a refresh of the list via a draft rebuild.

Gold Coast is a classic example of what not to do.

I said it from the beginning. They completely f*cked up, because they had no idea what culture they wanted to build.

If we were rebuilding with Dodoro at the helm, it would look like Gold Coast.

A bunch of nice players, who are soft, elite at nothing and no ounce of competitiveness.

Just look at the players they brought in from other clubs (aside from Ablett); Harbrow, Brennan, Josh Fraser, Rischetelli, Malceski,
Matt Rosa.

Nothing there tells me “tough, uncompromising footballers” which you build a club around.

I don’t know that anyone is arguing we should “just” go to the draft are they? I think the general argument is that we need to overhaul the culture, and as part of that overhaul the list. I’m certainly not advocating bringing in a bunch of kids and leaving it to Stringer to drive off field standards.

Exactly this its why im iffy about a rebuild

I’d rather try and fail, than not try at all.

We have 20 years of sustained mediocrity - if that isn’t long enough, I don’t know what is.

perc going into bat for mediocrity more than bacchusfox with labor party

Eventually, there will come a time where there will be no living Essendon supporter who has seen an Essendon finals win.

Gone quiet. Nobody wants a full rebuild?

I still do

Nobody cares. Apathy is our culture now.

Tbh I don’t really see the point of both this thread and the “List build, where are we going…” thread. What is the difference?

We are into a full rebuild.

Whats an example of this club not rebuilding its list.

We have new players on every line.

This is a shuffle
We have never committed to a proper rebuild

What IS “a proper rebuild,” Ace ? How many old stagers and never were’s do we sack at the same time, to qualify for a proper rebuild ? Six ? Nine ? Fifteen ? Twenty-two ?

List build thread is more aimed at what people want to do across the gamut of options, plus what people think in the context of what the club is likely to do/accept. It’s more realistic.

This thread is specifically aimed at discussing a full rebuild, which most don’t think is at all likely to occur. A full rebuild being trading/delisting a significant chunk of the list, often deliberately to a degree sufficient to result in the club spending a number of years in the bottom 4.
