The Inevitable Rebuild

Everyone knows this but the club itself.

Plenty of supporters don’t either unfortunately

They have nothing to do that with. They need points for Kako and have little trade capital they are willing to part with. It’s a first, Kako and some rookies. There is no great hope this year.

Tsatas and Hobbs should be best 22 next year. They will be better.

Key is Reid and Ridley robustness.

Kako will be a great add. If we can pull a decent first rounder in addition, we’ll be fine.

A couple of injuries to key players early on will just about guarantee Essendon finish in the bottom 4 in 2025.

Talking to a mate of a mate who has just come over from Scotland this weekend, at the pub. He doesn’t know anything about AFL.

I was telling him about the recent history of Essendon, I was explaining how the draft and trade system works in the AFL. I said we have been a mid table team for 20 years.

First thing he said was “Essendon sounds like Man United”, while having a laugh.

Then he said; “why wouldn’t you just trade all your players, get a heap of good picks, sit at the bottom of the ladder for a few years and recruit the best young players?”

Me: “that would make sense wouldn’t it?”

It’s because rebuilds don’t work!!!

He was very confused why the club would choose to be a mid table team.

Why would we not make use of the only equalisation method that works

As a big club with access to marquee games, we will always be an attractive club for players. We don’t have to worry about doing a north and bottoming out with no players wanting to go there.

I honestly don’t understand why the club has been scared about rebuilding for that reason. Get a couple of elite players into the club and then players will start nominating to come. Look at West Coast right now for example

Even North will start attracting players from other clubs…… as players will want to play along side players like Sheezle, Wardlaw and Mckercher

That’s becuase McQalter is the Eagles coach now who happend to coach them at Richmond.

Baker and Graham were waiting to see who the coach was if McQalter wasn’t picked they would have nominated Freo imo.

Have you seen the Adam Simpson interview where he said players (managers) were ringing up the club saying they want to play with Harley?

No.

Get gun players to your team and have stability and top line players will want to go

Melbourne was a basket case pre 2016 and was able to get May, Lever and Langdon

Carlton was a basket case and still got players like Cerra, Saad, McGovern, etc wanting to go there.

Collingwood had the racism scandal and the salary cap issues in 2020 and two years later they’re getting Hill, Mitchell, etc

Even we weren’t a very attractive club from 2014 to 2016, but we were able to attract players in 2017. Players have short memories

Because all our players together are worth a single second round pick.

Seems like Essendon is the most unfun club to be as a player.

Unfun on the field, but I bet they have amazing parties. What’s the point of being so ■■■■ otherwise?

The best party would be winning a premiership party, taking your party to windy hill, then family day then a tattoo palour.

They should aim for that party.
