The Local Ground

Setanta o'hailpin has 77 goals so far this year...well ahead of Fev!

He has bags of 13 and 10's

Who for? (Breaking two rules of grammar)

Up in the Ovens and Murray for Albury I think it is?

Yeah Albury...I think Aker is coach?

EDFL matches this week.

Avondale v Strathmore

First vs second but Strathmore playing better at the moment. Should be a great match but I think Strathmore will win.

Abers v Keilor

4th v 3rd. Who knows with Abers. They are very hot and cold whilst Keilor are fairly consistent. I'm going for an upset here with Keilor as I don;t think Abers play well in bad weather.

Greenvale v Douttas

Season is basically over for Greenvale but they should be too good for Douttas.

Airport West vs Northern.

Danger game for AW. They need to win every match to stay in the finals race but Northern will be desperate as they are in a  relegation fight. I think AW in a close one.

Marby vs Pascoe Vale

Tomorrows conditions might suit Marby on their cow paddock. Upset could be on the cards.

Here comes Xavs.

After their worst start to a Premier season in years, the Toorak Park boys are closing on a finals berth and upset ladder leading Uni Blacks today.

The other thing to note is that it is clear that De la Salle and St. Bedes will drop to Premier B, after Old Brighton recorded another win to help get them to safety.

AH and Strathmore a tie.

Marby beat PV by a point

others were beltings....Abers by 58, Greenvale by 69 and Saints over AW by 101.

Reimers 4 and Johns 2 for Abers

Galea 6 and Rose 3 9 of AH's 10...Aaron Heppell best for Strathmore

Jedd Clothier 2nd best for Saints...the ONLY Anglo name in their team

B Goss 5 for Xavs and Murphy Ambrose goaling for them too. I presume Goss is the mad Bomber fan on the Recruit.

Accuracy wins matches, 16 scoring shots to 26 and they won by 15.

Indeed.

Goss is a fine footballer. I am trying to find out if he is related to that Port Melbourne family.

Or the former Queensland Premier

Had the upset at the old "Bear Cave" as Old Haileybury stopped Mazenod in their tracks.

Old Ivanhoe's win elsewhere sees the 2 likely Premier B relegated sides win with 2 weeks to go. Caulfield Grammarians are in some danger only leading Old Haileybury by 1.5 games. The other big upset was in Bulleen as Carey went down to AJAX who are trying to challenge for a top 4 spot.

The Other Ammo upset:

Battling premier  team Beaumaris snapped a long losing strike, by beating Trinity and virtually costing it a finals berth after a losing streak of their own. Seems a few of the Trinity boys disappeared overseas for the winter and the losses have piled up in their absence. Oops.

2 weeks to go for B-D4.

B sees Carey, SKOBs, Melburnians and AJAX separated by a game and percentage.

C - only 4th up for grabs with a game and percentage separating Parkdale, Oakleigh, Peninsula and PEGS

D1 - Battle for 2nd between Williamstown and North Old Boys, whilst Geelong and Mentonians fight for 4th.

D2 - Kew and St. Marys fighting it out for top spot, Paradians and St. Johns for 4th.

D3 - St. Leos and Northern Blues for top spot, Aquinas and Swinburne for 3rd, Richmond, PowerHouse, Albert Park and Uni High for 5th and 6th (top 6)

D4 - all decided top 4 to be the finalists.

3 weeks in Premier and:

Uni Blacks v St. Bernards for top spot, scotch, Trinity, Collegians and Xavs for 3rd and 4th, Brighton and De La Salle to survive relegation.

EDFL top 4 is all but settled...relegation far from it.

Avondale Heights and Strathmore level on top. Aberfeldie and Keilor 3rd and 4th 10 points behind the top 2.

Greenvale are 5th but need to win both games and Keilor lose both...they have a percentage advantage.

Pascoe Vale are 7th with 4 wins, Doutta bottom with 3 and Northern and Marby both 3 and a half. Pascoe Vale has the worst percentage.

Greenvale pay Keilor at home next week so that could make it interesting. Doutta play Airport West at AW. The other bottom sides play top sides.

In the last round, the top 4 play each other, while Doutta play Northern, Marby play Greenvale and PV play AW.

The move of Werribee Districts from VAFA Premier B to WRFL Division 1 has borne fruit already.

With a week remaining, the Soldiers Reserve based boys sit 3rd on the ladder, with only Deer Park and Spotswood ahead of them.

St. Albans and local rivals Hoppers Crossing make up the 5. Altona, if they win, could join Hoppers  on the same number of wins, but, their percentage is woeful and would see them miss anyway.

Out East the EFL has some interesting finals scenarios. Norwood are clear on top, but, there is a real battle between Balwyn and Vermont for 2nd, with percentage separating them. A game further back are Blackburn and Montrose. With a fortnight remaining, anyone from 2nd to 5th could finish 2nd to 5th.

Southern League:

Dingley lead the comp, but there is a good battle between St. Paul East Bentleigh and East Brighton, whilst 4th and 5th is between Cheltenham and Chelsea Heights. 2 weeks left.

Northern League:

2 weeks left and top spot is between Greensborough and Heidelberg, but the final 3 spots are interesting. Separated by just 1 full game are Montmorency, Macleod, Lower Plenty, West Preston Lakeside and Bundoora.

I used to love my local ground.

I saw the second quarter of Abers against Marby. Abers were 33 up at quarter time and won by 70 odd.

Tom Hislop 8, Reimers 5 and Johns 2.

One almighty clanger by Luke Davis to give Marby a goal.

But the guy who dominated the 2nd quarter was #26, M Lynch, a small medium bald left-footer. Not mentioned in the bests.

Doutta went down by a point to Airport West, would have saved them from relegation.

Galea and Rose 6 each for Avondale Heights.

Jarrod Bannister kicked his 100th goal with 12 against Whitefriars.

Premier saw De La Salle and Old Brighton swap ladder spots. Old Trinity are now out of the 4, behind Collegians and Xavs with 2 to play, whilst Scotch had a key win over the powerful St. Bernards.

Finals are settled in Premier B as both SKOBS and OMs recorded wins, whilst AJAX dropped at Melbourne Uni. Old Haileybury go down to premier C, but, Old Ivanhoe take on the former next week and after winning today, may yet stay up given the form of Caulfield Grammar directly above them.

Premier C finals are also settled. Only potential swap in the last round would be if Hampton Rovers lose and Monash Blues win.

Indicative of how close this season is that if Douttas beat Northern next week they will most probably finish 7th, but if they lose they will get relegated !!!

Looking likely that Greenvale will make finals now and thats something that Abers, Strathmore and Avondale would definitely not want.

Douttas lose by 2 points to north coburg saints ,keilor beat avondale to stay in four.

Greenvale beat marby but season over ,one of the closest  seasons ever.

Well done to caruso family  for staying up in premier division in thier first year

1st semi abers v keilor

2nd semi strathmore v avondale

division 1 tulla into granny beating west coburg.

Feel desperately for Douttas as they have had so many close losses this year but on the other hand Northern Saints have been a welcome addition to the top flight and deserved to stay up.

Has been one of the best relegation fights ever and the league is so competitive now that no team can take another lightly. All teams and the EDFL are to be congratulated.

Onto finals and both AH and Strathmore enter below top form. Abers are a definite live chance but IMO the way the finals are set up it definitely favours teams who have finished 1-2. AH have the weapons up forward and this could be the difference.

Black Rock take on Lyndale in an elimination final today at Heatherton...carn Jets :)
