The mega gnashing of teeth, save the players etc

hes a flog. but good on him for letting us all know he/she is.

ben - look i agree 99% of the time. but we have so much speculation and bullsht on us… i want us on the front foot for ONCE. a 1 year incentive driven extention makes sense. low ball it with high incentives. hirds grounds arent that strong but i dont think its taking advantage of him.

Let’s sign him up for life

You’re right, 4 year deal on the table tonight from Little or I’m not renewing my membership

Oh, I was wondering where the “I have an opinion, let’s make a thread about it because nobody cares if I put it in the other threads” thread was this week.

How about we let him coach to the end of his contract to see what he can do without WADA hanging over the club, before we go out and Matty Knights the ■■■■ out of things by extending a guy who could still be a dud

Agree with the sentiment, but unfortunately the reality is if we don’t sack him or sign him before next season it will be exactly like Carlton was this year.

only the sith deal in absolutes.
If the players really do love him and want him to stay, then they could start doing him some favours on the field. On face value, and under any other circumstances, these performances are what you see when a coach has lost the group. It's virtually the template for it.

Obviously these aren’t normal circumstances, and the issue is very murky, but this is getting pretty dire, and big decisions get made when these results keep happening.

I would argue When a coach (+club+league+sport+country) has lost the group.

Not that that really matters.

I hope they let him have a fair crack at next year, but I also hope like hell they have a plan B in mind, and that it’s not Mark Harvey.

Telling that Jobe flat out escaped the country. I am surprised players (multiple) haven’t retired at this point TBH.

Yeah, I have a feeling we might lose a few more over summer.

So if Hird goes, who do we get? Do we go for another untried coach? Or do we chase Worsfols (not keen on him) or go for Roos or try and coax out someone currently coaching?

Looking pretty bleak.

Both are very good interviews on thoughts of the game and the feeling of the club and group.

BUT if you decide to make a big move at the end of this season because - as this topic says "the team is crap, this is not good enough, enough is enough, let's make some changes to this cack coaching panel we have", it is ludicrous to make the big sweeping change of sacking everyone (or near enough to everyone) BUT keep the unproven (on the whole), nonperforming senior coach. That we would look at it and go "yeah you're right guys, it's a real ■■■■■■ box, let's surround our boy HIRDY with some better assistants, that'll fix the problem amirite guys?" is absolutely ludicrous. It would be like deciding to cut the list ultra deep and do a huge rebuild of the list around Steinberg and Melksham.

I’m still not following you.

Is the point that the assistants (on the whole) are more proven than Hird? I would disagree with that, but really there’s not much data to prove one way or the other.
(Bass 1st year, Egan 3rd or 4th year, Skippie 5th? year, Harvey around for yonks at Ess/Freo/Bris most of which were crap, Neeld around for yonks at Coll when they were good & Melb when they were crap)

Or that changing the assistants would be more of a shakeup to the joint?

Or is it just a general vibe thing.

For mine, the club has absolutely dicked Jim Hird, just as much as the players. With Knights (again, a popular trope) they basically gave him an open cheque book going into ‘09 to chase any assistant he wanted - which he knocked back, presumably fearing one of them would usurp him. I get that that was Knights’ 3rd year and this would technically be Hirds’ 5th, but I don’t think it would be the craziest move. Every chance if Hird gets chopped the new bloke would bring in new assistants anyway.

Don’t care about the saga, this is an unmotivated side with a coach that can’t motivate them.

Season stinks like a corpse.

I’m sitting comfortably inside the apathy brought on by too many glasses of red. I don’t care who coaches, I’m only 46…
There is plenty of time left to see my team win another flag

Dont think any coach could motivate them, imagine an outsider coming in and asking the players to lift…they’ll be like, you got no farkin idea what we are going through.

I'm curious about this - where did you hear it? In all my time on Blitz I've never heard that story before. I thought the general thinking was that Knights was short-changed in the football department (as was Sheedy before him) and it wasn't until Hird got there that they started undoing all the damage Jackson did to the off-field setup. I'm not saying this is right, but its what has always been stated (that I have seen).

Mink is right.
Sack Hird ? Do you clowns want to let Ma Donohoe run our Club ?
Get behind Hird.

Then he would drop them and play guys who are up for it.

We need a coach to come in with new ideas, a fresh pair of eyes and be ruthless.

Who is left to play?
