The mega gnashing of teeth, save the players etc

Darth Tag havn,t heard any abuse to the players from opposition supporters where I sit but from some of ours yes ,to the usual whipping boys and the Bronx cheers to Joe were a bit low.

There are a lot of people panicking in here.

If you cant control it, dont agonise over it. Take a bex and have a good lie down.

Its hard not to agonise over it when its the club you have loved and adored all your life.

Fwiw i agree with you- i just find it very very hard to switch off

Is it just me, or are there more ‘genuine’ Essendon supporters calling for the coaches sacking than there are Sarahs on the Triple-M?

That’s not good. Bugger, guess we all have those type of supporters. Some of this site too.

My faves are the Facebook comments crew. Always some sweet smiling old fella cuddling his grandkids and then the comment says something like, "Hird is a ■■■■. He has destroyed this club. Has to get out now. Golden boy prick." And the comment is for a Bombers post about a young player re-signing or something.

From a pure football coaching perspective there is nothing to indicate that Hird is one of the best 18 AFL coaches in Australia.

The game style is terrible, the team simply cannot score because of the shocking way it comes in, we continue to get a bunch of goals kicked on us in a row and not only that we would have to be the worst team in the league for allowing scores in the last 1 or 2 minutes of a quarter.

These are all issues that coaches have a direct influence on.

Hirdy and the club need to be pragmatic and come to some sort of an arrangement, preferably soon so a new coach can make the necessary list management decisions.

The club would not be that unattractive for a prospective coach either. Massive supporter base with good sponsors, playing list has good top end talent and any new coach would not have a great weight of expectation on them in their first season or two.

Yeah, but say half the playing list get suspended at the end of the year how is your attractive prospective job going now?

a) Its not going to happen.
b) New coach starts from ground zero with no expectations. Can under promise and over deliver for his first 3 seasons.

Headline from Herald Sun January 4, 2013

Punters back Essendon for 2013 premiership

ESSENDON has been the best backed team in AFL premiership markets with the Bombers firming from $26 into $17.

“As soon as we opened them at $26 there was solid support and obviously with the signing of Brendon Goddard they are well placed to have a big year,” TAB’s Adam Hamilton said…

Sounds a lot like the bullshit meter around here.

You know this how? Because the players and even the most positive Essendon supporters sure seem to be concerned about this.

10 reasons why Essendon can upset the odds and secure a top-four finish in season 2015

Why this sudden change? I can’t understand it.

I’d love to see a comparative timeline of potentially impactual news related to the saga being released and our performances on field.

What planet are you living on?

The media and the football public are delusional. They are idiots. They dont know anything about football. They dont know what it takes to win. They dont know that in this day and age, if you are off your mark by a couple of percent, you are doomed.

This man has taken a battering from everyone. I dont need to go into detail about that.
We started the season with a fresh start and played with passion. Then WADA decided to keep this storm of lies, witch hunting & trauma going and we have stumbled.

I could pick apart our game ruthlessly and there would be nothing wrong with that, but at the end of the day, we are in an environment where our players are suffering in a way that no other teams and players are suffering.

Sign Hird on.
He IS a good coach.
We have seen it before and we WILL see it again.
Stop your fellow bombers from abusing the players , the team, the club. we are suffering, we are out of steam.
Just be silent and wait and know that the people in charge will hopefully make the right calls.

The right call is to sign Hird on. Now.

Completely agree with the first part of your post and do think that Hird can coach. It angers me the amount of our own supporters talking about sacking Hird and already discussing the next coach we should sign. It is pathetic nonsense. Some of our own supports no better then the scumbags in the media.

I think a statement from the club that Hird will be coaching next year no matter what needs to be made. Clear the air, and give the man support. He deserves it, and I think he needs it after all the club and the AFL have made him suffer.

But in saying this its not time to resign Hird. Hird deserves some saga free air to prove himself. If the saga is continuing this time next year and our club performance is still not there (and it wouldn’t be if we had the best coach that ever lived). Then Id say resign him.

If we are cleared at the end of the year. Have a full pre-season and season saga free, and we are still not performing then we have to look elsewhere.

I'd love to see a comparative timeline of potentially impactual news related to the saga being released and our performances on field.

We were 3-3 92.4% before WADA appealed.
2-10 since (can’t be stuffed working out the %age but it’s now 75%).
I’m sure it’s just a big coincidence though.

I don’t think it has helped that the club all but made sure Hird isn’t surrounded by a coaching team he trusts, has no control over the footy department and knows he is on borrowed time.

I doubt many coaches thrive once they don’t enjoy the support of the entire club.

Thanks, and a lot of those 3 losses can be attributed to lack of pre-season by some players. Still interesting.

A year like this was inevitable the moment the EFC board pandered to the AFL, took a backroom deal and accepted sanctions for a supplement program that was happening at 12 other clubs. Ironically, if they had only followed Doc Reid into battle and taken the AFL to the Supreme Court - then we wouldn't be in the position we are in.

I have been in love with the Essendon football club since my father first took me to windy hill in the middle 50's. I have been to nine bomber grand finals and left six of them deliriously happy. I have adored the 'boys' who have played for the mighty dons for almost six decades and have hardly missed a game in all that time., until this year. I am no longer in love with the bombers. I have missed three of the past four home games. It saddens me to see what has happened to the club I have always been proud to say I am a member of. I wish the James Hird time as coach had never happened. My club is on its knees but I have had enough. Yes, changes have to be made. I want to fall in love again.

This sums it up entirely for me as well (although I didn’t start following the team until '81).
