Id love to kick David Evans in the sack.
Ok, historical precedent time. November 1942, the Germans had taken 90% of Stallingrad, and the Russian army was on its knees. Less than 2 1/2 years later, the Russians were marching through Berlin on a victory lap. Yep, things are pretty grim right now, but history shows repeatedly that great triumphs can be snatched from the jaws of defeat. Didn't we get beaten by the Hawks by 160 points in August 1992, yet we were premiers a year later? Look it's easy enough to get upset/disillusioned right now, but as Maya Angelou once quoted- "Tomorrow is another day, and it WILL be better" We've just got to believe that that's the case.
Are you seriously comparing the AFL and the AFL Media with the Nazis and the Wehrmacht?
Because I’m ok with that.
I've already written off 2016, seeing the WADA verdict won't be handed down till some time in 2016 - When you take into account the mental fragility of the group, it will be no surprise if the players have a less than inspiring pre-season which of course will impact on their form in 2016 - In other words we will be behind the eight ball.2017 will be when we see clear air.
Unfortunately, I am pretty sure this will be the case.
If Hird goes into 2016 as senior coach he will be a lame duck. If he loses a few early he will be gone, if he wins a few early then the noise will die down but he’s never going to be trusted to take this list to a premiership after the disgraceful performances of the last 10 weeks.
We need someone new, preferably either a new coach from a progressive program (eg Dew) or an older coach with a history of success (eg Lyon, Longmire, Worsfold). I’d even look at Ratten and McCartney as guys who deserve a second chance as senior coaches.
Hird is not a premiership coach who has had a bad luck year, his only coaching experience is with his son’s U14s. The AFL is not the place to learn how to turn an underperforming team around.

why do you feel we need a coach with history of success? to do what? our team isnt good enough. Malthouse to the blues is a perfect example. Let hird build this team to a successful one. He was an average footballer that went #79 in the draft and turned himself into a champion. Who says he cant do the same as coach ?

The AFL is not an environment to learn to coach in. Sorry, it’s as simple as that.

Excellent comparison.
Who was coaching Russia and who was their list manager?
BRING THOSE COMMUNISTS IN!!!
Hird was one of the greatest players of all time, but not for his athletic ability’s. He can read the play and the game better then pretty much anyone to play. This is what makes for a great coach, and he has proven successful in his years leading up to the saga.
Andrew your view is obviously that we shouldn’t have hired Hird to coach at all. But we did, and he can’t be sacked this year due to non performances, we could have the best coach that ever lived this year and would get the same results.
Hird has shown some promise Pre-saga and more then deserves to at least see out his contract. It would soul crushing to the club if he is sacked now.
Carlton:
‘We need to get rid of Malthouse, he’s the problem’.
Ok gents, so should buckets be played forward or back???

Re-read what you have written Andrew.
It is not a matter if Hird can coach, he has proved he can with a 13-3 in 2013, and then stripped from finals.
The real matter is, no-one could take this list to a flag, as it is not good enough. No disrespect to these boys but they would not get a game at a top four club, currently including the Doggies !
So while you lump all this on Hird, think hard about what it takes to win a flag and let me know if this list could win one under any coach.
People are so easy to blame the saga as the reason for the players, yet seem to think Hirds coaching is not effected by it. Hird was a promising young coach, but the club and by extension AFL will never let him have the freedom to coach without the level of scrutiny and pressure he has now. And that makes his job almost impossible.
Hird as coach is not about his ability to coach anymore.
It also has implications for the players. They were better last year under crazy hard to read and I don’t want him to continue Bomber. They had equal reason to be unsure and scared of the outcome as they do this year. So why so bad this year?
I just cannot see a way forward with Hirdy there. And it has nothing to do with James or his ability to coach. It is the conditions we have set around him that make it no option but to fail.
Hird in true character of the great man he is remains defiant and will pursue the resurgence of Essendon till the bitter end. Unfortunately that end will never be allowed to be anything more than meek.
We have hit the bottom, and Hirdy is still trying to drag the team up with his fingernails. But instead of helping him they have lost their fight and are now weighing him down to the clutches of an AFL victory.
It’s a sad time for the club, supporters and players.
But it’s an even more sad time for James, for its a time he cannot fight the bombers to victory no more because his team (club management) will not allow him the freedom to do so.
Hird is the coach and will remain coach.
Id love to kick David Evans in the sack. It's a good plan, but how do you coax him into bed to begin with?

Interesting that you mentioned the doggies who have gone from a bottom four club to a top six club because of … Ta da!!! A new coach.

That’s not quite right though…
We are not following the Bulldogs path. They have been on a full rebuild since 2011.
They have also done an amazing job of drafting very talented footballers (and received some luck through father son).
They have done three years under an excellent development coach. That coached rubbed some of the older group the wrong way and he was thrown out the door.
A new coach comes in with all that young talents, gets rid of most of the older players still around, keeps all the assistant coaches there (somehow he works very well with them) and instils a high standard of performance throughout the group where any player can be dropped at any time.
We do not have the playing list to do a Bulldogs. We are on the same path as the Brisbane Lions. There is no quick fix from this.
Changing banks isn't going to take your debt away. In the same vein changing Hird doesn't remove the Saga.I’m surprised it lasted so long. ■■■■, the morale at the club is so low I’d prefer to forfeit the game.
Random side question for those that went today(or the last few games), are the players getting abuse related to the saga by opposition supporters?
Not that I’ve heard.

Great draft picks! Ta da!!!
(To be fair, although the coach ruffled feathers he did lay down a good platform).
Dogs went from bottom to finals, we went from finals to bottom. Dogs got rid of a Cooney, we obtained a Cooney. Coincidence? I think not!
