The monfries tackle...wtf

FARKING KENTS...

we won, who cares..we farking won

Still it was a Kent act

The umps are just too gutless to make a call in a close game in the dying minutes, in the fear they get it wrong.

Unfortunately, when you miss an obvious one like that, you actually risk changing the outcome of a game.

Have a look at the last 3 minutes of the WB v Melb game from last week.

The Demons were royally screwed because the umps flatly refused to make a decision.

It’s p*ssweak umpiring !!!

Deserves own thread

Apalling. If we lost, we wouldve been filthy and out for blood. I hope they address it

I actually don't blame the umpire. That's very clearly what they've been instructed to do. That (non) decision was a particularly bad example, but not dissimilar to the (non) decision on Bob Murphy last week. It's easy to see how this happens when the umps have very clearly been told not to penalise players when the ball is "released in the tackle" (formerly known as "incorrect disposal") while at the same time punishing guys who pick up the ball and immediately have 5 opposition players jump on their back.

Blame the Rules of the Game committee, Mark Evans, Wayne Campbell, KB, not the individual umps.

Edit: At the time I was FILTHY it didn't get called, and would still be stewing if we'd lost. But having had time to cool down and think about it, I'm really not surprised, for the reasons mentioned above.

I didn't have a problem with it for a couple of reasons.

1) They hadn't paid holding the ball all night. Including stuff like when Heath Hocking got the ball, saw he was going to get tackled and tried to run through the tackler and failed and never tried to get rid of it. To pay one with two minutes to go when you haven't paid them at all for the whole game would truly be terrible umpiring.

2) I suspect the umpire thought he got boot to ball, when he actually kicked the ground.

If you want to be ■■■■■■ off at a decision, be ■■■■■■ off at the free Schultz got for holding against Hooksy at the start of the 4th quarter. There was minimal contact and Schultz fell to ground of his own accord. That was not a free kick in under 7s modified rules footy, let alone the AFL. That also cost Essendon a goal, but everyone forgot about that cause it didn't happen in the last two minutes with the game coming down to the wire.

If we had have lost that because of that disgraceful non decision, I would have had to buy a new TV. Fark I was furious!!!

BT said the umpires probably got it right.

BT is also a massive moron.

They may as well just do away with the incorrect disposal rule altogether, no one knows how to interpret it, not even the umps. If the rule didn't exist at least there wouldn't be this forensic grey area there is now.

Anyway, it didn't make a difference in the end so GO BOMBERS

fark carlton

was htb paid once all night?

red hot one week, whistle put away the next

that's the farking annoying thing

i think they were pretty consistent on the call all night to be fair, but it's still an incorrect decision.

Just saw a replay.

There were three players between the field umpire and Baguley/Monfries.

If he didn't have a clear view, you'd prefer him to guess?

I think that rule is seasonal.

That's how I remember it.

It's not that he 'didn't pay' it, he really couldn't see it properly from behind the action.

And it wasn't the only time all night that Bags hit Monfries with a huge tackle. Some interesting history there.

No excuse. As an umpire, it’s your responsibility to have a clear view of the action ESPECIALLY in the dying minutes.

Sorry Rocky IV, yes, BT says silly things at times, but this was not one of them.

BT said

“He did not handball it, he did not kick it. You must pay the tackler surely. It was the perfect tackle, you can‘t do any better than that.”

After the game BT said that the umpire may have got it right. At the time BT said it was a bad decision.

I only watch the game, then turn it off.

Oh well, if he said that after the game, more silly him.

Would have been an issue for me had it cost us the game, but it didn't so I'm not bothered.

Bigger concern for me is how many in the back tackles we're copping without getting frees.  Seems you can just ride a player forward nowadays with no penalty.  At least 3 to us should have been paid vs Port.
