The new Essendon Coach - Mark Mcveigh (Part 3)

I would be looking at picking over the carcass of North’s assistants to get them over in the current environment, but their line up looks pretty ordinary. The only one I like is Barlow who I thought would be a good chance as an AFL senior coach in the future, perhaps spike could give him a call.

On another note if Nick’s gets sacked from Adelaide, could he come over to help spike? I’m pretty sure they would have worked together at the Giants, could be a good mentor for him as someone that successfully did a ground zero rebuild himself (I dunno why the crows wanna get rid of him, I reckon his list is crap and he has them playing decent footy).

Im so happy north waited until after we appointed our new coach to sack Clakko. Knowing the recent history of our boneheaded club they would have picked him to be our coach

Michael Barlow as head of Development would be a good get.

hmm. sydney seems obvious. adelaide? doggies?

its going to be interesting when all the positions fill up and its obvious that Essendon wasnt sitting on its hands the whole time

Why?

He did a pretty solid job at Werribee. Got them from mid-table to a Grand Final, few of the blokes he coached got drafted to AFL clubs.

Amon Buchanan and Nick Malceski are the two that have been linked from Sydney. Dion Prestia as player/coach the latest to be linked. Haven’t heard about any other coaches.

It’s done, it’s over. Hird is not coaching Essendon again.

I wouldn’t rule it out if he does a full-time assistant role at another AFL club for a few years. Unless McVeigh knocks it out of the park (and I’m really hoping he does), there is always going to be an undertone at Essendon of “what if…?”.

A finals appearance by 2029 would completely snuff out that lingering thought among most of the club, though.

I doubt it.

Poor old Hirdy will end up like Nixon’s head in Futurama…

He’s working at Norf. We should have an embargo on all personnel from there.

Don’t know how old you are tiger but he’s not the giving up type.

A third of his prime years were wiped out, came back. Current coach caved his bonce in, came back. First contest. Hard. Stepped down as coach under protest whilst wearing most hated man in Australia crown, came back.

Fk me, literally came back from the (almost) dead.

AFL parachutes Scott in to kibosh coaching ambitions in 22, comes back, then Essendon un coincidentally has McVeigh apply 4 years later, all while Caros parroting the AFLs preferences.

And hes already talking to other clubs about roles which will give him the requisite CV thats nice and digestible fir everyone involved and bugger me if it doesn’t give him a platform to…

You see the theme here?

It’ll be nothing on Hirds side that prevents it anyway. And I don’t blame him for not wanting to take another role because he knows the sideshow it’ll create, and how everyone will be agitating for a bust up between them.

But his career, his very essence, is defined by overcoming obstacles.

He’ll coach Essendon.
