I thought Hird was a given but now I think it might be Longmire.
Youâve got Ted Richards on the board - youâd assume he will be for Longmire. Heâs also best mates with Jobe and Iâm not sure how Jobe and Hirdâs relationship is after the saga.
Then youâve got Anthony Howard, whose wife is Linda Dessau. Wasnât she on the AFL commission with Fitzpatrick when they condoned Hird and was she the woman who publicly shamed Hird at a social event during the saga?

Do you think Hardwick had to enter a process to be the GC coach or Mitchell had to interview against externals for the Hawks job?
I think many here make the assumption that the club has the full power here and is an attractive place to come to. We are such a mess off field, that i would say many coaches are weary of coming to. Buckleyâs comments after he rejected our approach stick out here:
âGenerally, if youâre a prospective senior coach youâre taking whatever opportunity is there for you. There are plenty that would say, âif you give me the opportunity then I will make it workâ,â Buckley said.
âBut I reckon Essendon are now having to sell themselves to someone because they need to prove to the person whoâs going to go and step in there that theyâve got their ducks in a row â and I donât think they have at the moment.â

I canât believe Brad doesnât get more blame for this. He basically was unable to attract any decent coaches to his staff other than old sycophants.
His management of his staff appears abysmal, people jumping ship at las t minute and he is unaware.
Brad Scott needs more blame for this.
Meanwhile Hirdy has a pretty good list and he doesnât even have the job.

For me, itâs more a test of their attitude and if they are prepared to fight for the job, instead of it just being handed to them because of who they are or what they have done

Well thatâs exactly it! How do I know? Because other than helping out Spike at GWS for a couple of months Hird has never coached anywhere else!

Spot on. Mitchell was designated as a future coach by Hawthorn in 2015 so his career path was mapped out. 1 year playing outside the Hawks system, then assistant coaching for a year outside the Hawks system, then back into the Hawks system as a VFL senior coach, then appointment as the Hawthorn coach. Brilliantly executed succession plan. No need for a âmentorâ; they even got the Eagles to pay his tuition fees!
