How much of a pain in the arse is moving? So fkn over it. So over a lot of things at the moment if I’m being honest. Been a tough time.
I’m going back and forth of the 8 apartment building here in Box Hill carrying stuff and my new elderly Chinese neighbours come out and say hello.
Only, they didn’t exactly say hello - they barely spoke English. Nevertheless, they immediately invited me into their home and offerred me some tea.
Thanks to google translate, we had a great chat for about 45 minutes. Their faces lit up when I described the tea as ‘smokey’ as they say only experts use this term to describe it and were pleasantly suprised that I had heard of their native Tianjin.
I had a great time learning to pronounce their names (took me a few goes!) and showed them photos I took a couple of weeks ago of a blue tongue lizard eating blueberries from my hand back on the farm where I grew up.
It was such a beautiful and generous moment and given where things sit with me currently, was just what the doctor ordered.
I told them that I’d love to come by again for more tea and some lessons in mandarin!
