The positive thread. find something, anything

Spending two months in Japan from mid September!
Just five days in July for me... :(

Positive Dave!

I was just talking to a Japanese lady in the park. We pushed our kids on the swings together and talked about Japan. She said it was 5 degrees over there at present and I laughed and thought Jesus that’s freezing.

Then I realised I live in Tasmania where it’s ■■■■■■■ cold over winter and I hate the cold. It was s real downer.

We politely bid good day and parted ways there after.

Which was nice.

Positive Dave!

That is a positive.
They deported him after 2 days last time!

Two weeks, thank you very much.

I reckon I’ll cope (albeit slight culture shock when going direct to Barcelona after that!)

Half your luck. The most remarkable country and people. Enjoy.

Was there in April

The missus and I were there in Apr/May of last year. Loved it. We got a rail pass and made really good use of it, travelling from one end of Japan to the other. The service is fantastic and those bullet trains are awesome. You can drink and eat on them and the seats are comfy and spacious. Grab yourself a bento box lunch from the platform as you go through a station.
Go to the Robot Restaurant in Tokyo. Non stop WTF moments. Go for a walk around Kabukicho and get a drink while you are there.
Do the onsen thing and enjoy the moment.
Go to a sushi restaurant where they don’t speak English or have English menus. Doing the mime acts to explain what sort of fish you want is very amusing. Walk down the back streets and see the real Japan.
Buy a data sim for your phone at the nearest Bic Camera store and use GPS and walk around as much as you can.
Tripadvisor.

Going in June for 10 days. Can’t wait. Awesome country.

I see excitement in your immediate future.
Oh, and divorce.

Didn’t do robot restaurant. Got pampered by maids instead.

Best thing about Japan is they have no idea what wada is or asada or CAS!

long story short, got my work trip to Boston this year cancelled and replaced by 2 trips to NJ/NYC. As much as I enjoy Boston, that’s probably a win.

Geishas?

Blitz is convincing me that our next trip will be Japan. Haven’t even bought the tickets for the upcomming one yet though!

Give the girls at Maidreamin’ in Shibuya a big “nyah nyah” from me.

Maids!

Couldn’t afford Geishas and didn’t have anyone to introduce me. Geishas are generally ‘invite only’ places so you need someone to introduce you. Geishas can average about $15,000 per consultation.

There’s no way that’s real.

There are seedy versions, but this one is clean

The ‘heart’ makes everything better. It’s magic.

I went to Toyko and Kyoto for 2 weeks in July last year with the family (wife and 3 kids). Loved it. Yoyogi Park on a Sunday was pretty cool, the train system is unbelievable, if we had our time again we would have spent 4 or even 5 days in Kyoto instead of just 2 days. We found an apartment on AirBNB in the business side of Shinjuku which was a great place to base ourselves. About a 20 min walk to the main station.
