The reigning DJ King (Mk IX) is @nobody because ***BLOND DJ IS LIVE***...Round 2 (Songs from the slightly more successful round 1 DJs)

I get why people like dubstep it sounds cool is loud and in your face and doesn’t have the boring monotony that other electronic styles can have.

But Hair Metal is loud, in your face and sounds cool too, but we all know that’s trash. Same same but different.

I think it’s all about selecting the good stuff. Metal has good stuff, Punk has good stuff, even yacht rock has good stuff (if you’re on a yacht, with a margarita, a large doob and some lobster). Don’t choose the style, choose the good tunes.

Okay have listened to all of them all the way through and come to the conclusion that there are only three songs there that I wouldn’t vote YES to in regular DJK. Since I can’t vote for more than five here are my five.

5 points.

Half the votes are in and it’s seriously tight scoring. Top ten within 7 votes of each other.

Edit: thanks LB, more than half now.

The only conclusion I can make at this stage is that we all spun either Silverchair or Agnelli & Nelson because none of us can vote for our own song.

That’s the kind of quality anaysis you could find in the Age

Edit. Yours is obviously better because there is some actual fact.

I try.

Ok, I’m calling it a night. Back for more fun tomorrow!

My notes predict Klawdy

Yeah, I have actual paper notes.

Honourable Losers:
Iggy Pop - Please not again, not competetion worthy

Atomic Swing, I didn’t like the vocal so it was probs Bakes.

TV on the Radio. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay tooooooooooooo JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJish.

Sebadoh: NEVER CHANGE YOUR NAME EVER EVER EVER. Sebadoh is a ■■■■ name.

P.S. Battles were ace. I thought it was @Zimmer but not sure if he’s even playing.

A heap of songs I could see myself giving YES votes too if this was normal DJ King, mixed with a couple of stinkers. Overall it wasn’t too bad.

Honourable mentions:

Fugazi and Sebadoh - two bands I like but the songs chosen are a long way from faves. Same goes for CTE and Iggy.

Dishonourable mention to the Knife Party dubstep track. Oh Tom, how could you?

Anyhoo, here’s my top 5 @mrjez

5 - Magazine (song 8)
4 - Franz Ferdinand (20)
3 - REM (3) a fave, but feels like a safe choice for this comp.
2 - The Bongolian (12) funky. Better vox would have scored it higher.
1 - Beastie Boys

Looking forward to round 2…or 1.2 or whatever it is!

Morning all. Had to give a few of them a 2nd listen to split the pack.

5 points. No. 12. Googa Mama. Clear standout for me. Great vibe.
4 points. No. 14. LA Rock 01.
3 points. No. 1. Freaks.
2 points. No. 13. Happy Idiot.
1 point. No. 16. Tennessee.

Honourable to Magazine. Not usually my thing but almost snuck in.

Great quality overall though. Was easy to get through.

Who hasn’t voted, name and shame.

5 votes: Arrested Development - Tennessee
4 votes: Jamiraquoi - King For A Day
3 votes: Fugazi - Blueprint
2 votes: Atomic Swing - Stone Me Into The Groove
1 vote: Franz Ferdinand - The Fallen

Nearly half of them barely made it past the one-minute mark… made it a far less time-consuming exercise than it first appeared…

I’ll get the kids to school, then resume Admin duties!

By the way, I’ve fudged the rules a tad. Actually, there will be a DJ REVEAL AFTER ALL THE VOTES ARE IN FOR THIS FIRST SONG! It turns out that’s the way we did it previously, despite lots of arguing at the time. We will reveal after Round 1.1 again.

Soz. Didn’t arrive home from work until 2 a.m. Melbourne time. I have listened to most of the songs and will vote shortly. It shouldn’t be too hard, given the absolute tripe that has been played.
