Don’t harakiri, dude! You’ve almost got enough songs to mount a serious attack on the throne. We need a new KoK. The present one is ridiculously nice and his reign has led to patrons becoming far too tolerant and kind!
Cheers, LB (Hambo & Kira) - have run out of likes again.
OK, harakiri song. Too buggered to sketch out the origins of goa trance (mainly in the early 90s) and psytrance once it became mainstream. I love breakbeat and had a track lined up, however, I will exit on the safe option, trip hop.
Trip hop seems to have emerged out of Bristol in the early 90s. It is an easy listening, downtempo style, that incorporates electronica and hip hop, but could also mix in elements of funk, dub, soul, psychedelia, drum & bass, R&B, house, etc.
First came across this song on the Dave Seaman & Robert Miles Renaissance London mix back in 1997. Lost count of the number of times I have listened to and spun it. Fast forward to 2002 and our crew were cranking at Paul Van Dyk’s ‘One Perfect Day’ party, which was being recorded for the movie ‘One Perfect Day’. The movie was released in 2004, and not only featured that party, but also this song (won’t spoil the scene).
I dedicate this song to @Crazy_Bomber - it resembles a Björk song. One of the few DJs who has stuck in this thread from day 1, despite pretty much hating all the music in here.
The tunes are speaking for themselves. Keep spinning!
Yes, was at the same party too.
I warned you not to play trip hop

Oh, I like that song, haven’t heard it in years, never knew who did it, and forgot all about it. Yes, cheers for this one.

I feel like a big old meanie now. I’ve always thought Lamb was something I might like similar to Portishead or something but every time I hear them it does nothing for me.
Wasn’t expecting that at all. You are all ace (for now).
I’d love to delve into either breaks or psytrance, but it is late and I am feeling fairly fubar.
Downtempo to close out the weekend.
Early doors, I wasn’t convinced on Massive Attack. My mates raved about them, but I just couldn’t understand the hype. Then in 1998, they released their 3rd album, Mezzanine. I remember buying it with very little expectation, coming home, putting it on and thinking ‘Yep, this is flawless. They have nailed it’.
Rather than go with their more recognised songs, I wanted to spin a darker song that sounds frickin amazing on a good sound system and on the headphones, especially late at night. Night all & cheers.
Another yes from me. Going through a set of my favourite songs today.
Not my fave, but any from the Massive Attack top shelf will always get a yes.
So, you know, yes.
Thank you kindly, PP2. Perhaps, we are more similar than we realise. Bahahaha.
