How pathetic is it that these pieces of ■■■■ kept their life memberships after being convicted? Disgusting from St Kilda administration.
Extremely tough read, especially when you have kids the same age as the ones who suffered at the hands of these monsters.
Far out. Wonder how far out goes until the AFL feel compelled to actually face it?
I’m still stunned the major media companies are steering well clear of it. I know the AFaiL is all powerful but not reporting this stuff is just reprehensible.
Agreed. So bizarre. Almost as bizarre as a world in which this guy was getting community orders for repeat offending.
I hope Russell Jackson is keeping up the investigations.
If we don’t talk about it, then it didn’t happen, is their official policy.
After their behaviour during the Saga, none of us should be surprised.
probably because they don’t employ any journalists
That last line from the AFL’s counsel is quite telling. I read it as “this is a police matter, not an AFL matter”. RoCo has a lot to lose by pushing this issue via his platforms and you get the feeling that given how keen the AFL is for this to go away, he’ll never be invited back into the mainstream media again if the current admin has it’s way.
RoCo’s a good guy.
Warning: this is also a very sad story and it is linked to Rod Owen
Another disgraceful story of a similar ilk, but this time it’s cricket. Very, very long read. CA and Cricket Victoria/VCA have a lot to answer for.
Absolutely appalling that not only did this happen, but people that witnessed him commit these acts over a period of time did nothing about it. And furthermore how was he employed by the ACB and also Victorian cricket?
I know a guy who was a player at Hawthorn East about that time. And became a very senior policeman.
I’ll try to find out more.
I was on CUOV (Cricket Union of Victoria) for a couple of years. A very odd self-serving bunch of individuals. They’re now just part of Cricket Victoria.
All sounds very Roebuckian doesn’t it?
According to the story, 3 adults went on the tour, one was a paedophile, the other was a rapist.
Or alanjonesian
We had a club play on an adjoining field, whose president was extremely suss. Everyone in local cricket knew about him.
And was fairly senior on a nearby council just before the council mergers in the Kennett-era.
Tim Lane’s book about Peter Roebuck is worth reading if you haven’t already done so.
I was a huge fan of Roebuck’s cricket writing but he sure was a strange fellow.
The doctor sounded very suss. I think a lot of the time, cricket associations were grateful to have managers and others prepared to give their time.
We had a guy speak up at a match committee meeting of the City of Moorabbin CA (now South-Eastern CA) accusing an opposition junior manager of being a paedo. May have been true, but everyone believed the accuser was a paedo too.
At least now everyone has to have a Working With Children clearance from the police…but if no-one ever reports you, you’ll get one.
And in that story, wasn’t it possible that the rapist and the paedo were one and the same?
