I’m very pleased to see Destanee Aiava progress through to the final round of qualifying. She has had a really tough life and I just really want to see her do well.
She tried to jump off a bridge onto the Monash Freeway when she was just 21, had eating disorders, had burnout and breaks away from the sport but she’s still fighting on. And she is loved up and engaged to be married now so she seems much more settled off court.

Won the first 10 points was incridble went 2-0 in the oppening set then Daria stepped up by winning 5 games in a row and the match was basicly over not much changed after that and Daria won in straight sets.
She looks promising but the calls of her being “the next ash barty” can be put on hold after last night.
Blake Ellis won the second round and is through to the final for a qualifying spot against the number 1 seeded player.
Maddy Inglis, Kim Birrell, Elena Micic and Destanee Aiava all won second round matches and will be all playing a final match for a main draw spot
Jones broke twice and got it back to 5-5 in the first set. She then lost her serve again.
She us 16 and has all the tools to do well in 2-3 years.

No.
Like someone already mentioned earlier, if there is an Aussie still alive they will typically schedule at least one of them for the men’s or women’s slot and the other game will likely feature a top 2 or 3 seed.
