Is it better for AI to be in private hands or public hands?
All the talk is currently about anthropic - founded by former members of open AI (currently privately held, but may IPO).
It would be better if AI was set on fire and everyone involved in its creation and especially its marketing and monetisation spent the rest of their working lives cleaning public toilets with their tongues.
Second best option would be public ownership, because at least in that case there’d be some legitimate debate and transparency about how much money is being shovelled out the window in pursuit of this snake oil.
