The Twit show Musk go on

Oh sure. I just don’t think that their interests will necessarily coincide for all that long. And when that point arrives when they don’t - both men are extremely willing to hurl public personal abuse on a hair trigger when opposed, and both have extemely thin skins when it comes for personal criticism directed at them. They’ll all be happy-happy today, but I don’t think the dynamic can possibly be at all stable in the long or medium term.

Ford also issued a mea culpa and didnt die a racist.

He was probably more akin to an anti zionist.

That’s … not even close to true. Ford was a classic anti-semitic conspiracy theorist, who believed that the Jews controlled banks, international finance etc etc etc for their own corrupt interests. Zionism wasn’t really a prominent enough ideology to bother opposing back then anyway. Ford had nothing to say about plants for a Jewish homeland, but a WHOLE lot of opinions about Jews in finance and politics across the world.

He recanted (allegedly) in the late 1920s, under pressure from a major boycott and resulting slump in sales. To what degree he actually changed his views rather than just toeing the line for business purposes, i’m not sure anyone really knows.

There a background story to every racists racism and he published a meaculpa to his views when what he based them on was deemed to be phoney.

Ie the zionist plot to take over the west.

You could argue it was because he was sued, but it was only a decade later and he was producing bombers to fight the nazis.

At some point he changed his views on Jewish people.

For years he allegedly gave his Rabbi neighbour a free vehicle. He bred his racism by thinking that there were “good and bad Jews “ based on ironically “fake news.”

When there was nothing of the sort.

He probably encountered good and bad bankers and businessmen some of which happened to be Jewish.

Depends i guess if you believe people can change.

I think racism for most is borne out of ignorance. Something that can be unlearned through education.

I dont think his character should be cancelled if part of his story includes published apologies.

Id assume the better of the mans character for all of his other positives.

I haven[t read anything in this thread, so apologies in advance if anyone else has raised this potential issue. Could it be that Musk, in supporting Trump so visibly, is setting himself up for a run at the presidency next election?

I don’t think he can run as a foreign born citizen, just like Schwarzenegger can’t

Correct.

At some point Elon’s Tesla business will come head to head with Trump’s oil and gas guzzling fancy and the divorce will be quick and messy. I suspect it won’t be that far away.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility for Frump to legislate to change that.

He can’t, it would have to be a constitutional amendment.

He’s not even there legally.

Trump’s immigration policy has the chance to do the funniest thing possible.

Just listen to Anthony Scaramucci talk about how Trump uses and burns those around him. The moment Trump sees that someone as a potential rival for attention and importance, he cuts them off and discards them.

I can’t see Musk lasting a long time. Can’t see RFKjr doing so either unless he kowtows.

He entered illegally, but I believe he’s a citizen now regardless so is legal despite how things reached the current point.

And of course, nobody really expects Trump’s AG or Trump’s immigration department to enforce laws against people Trump LIKES, do they? Laws are for other people.

Yeah, we are about to see how true that really is.

I want to get off this timeline.

just out of curiosity, how difficult is the process to make a constitutional amendment?

I can’t give that a like mate, but I agree that he will at least be looking into it

can’t be that hard, there’s 27 of them

I looked it up, requires a request to be made at a Constitutional Convention called for that purpose by two thirds of both Houses of Congress or two thirds of the States.

After the request, the final amendment has to be ratified by a three quarter majority of both Houses or three quarters of the States.

He may have the control now, but I can’t see him getting that sort of majority

Just change the rules!

With the rumours that Musk bought Ford (declared not true) amongst other motoring giants, it will be interesting to see what this bloke does next. Buying Ford would be difficult given its very broad ownership base, but Toyota would be possible.

Toyota has some sort of nationalist protection from memory.
