The Weather Thread (not allowed to talk about rain)

I don’t want the country to burn but I do like a hot summer. Hot as in split your head open like a watermelon hot. As I like a cold wet winters. I like seasons.

This summer has meh at best. And if the BOM tell us it’s one of the warmest summers on record they can go and get ######.

They told us November 2019 that we won’t have any significant rain until April 2020, ended up having the wettest December and a very very mild January (and wet)

This year they said it was going to be warm but has been mild at best. Though this year the excuse is that with less flights, they aren’t getting as much feedback from the pilots.

Um, pardon?

Rainfall

December was the driest on record for Australia. Rainfall for the month was amongst the ten lowest on record out of 120 Decembers since 1900 for Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and the Northern Territory.

Australia in December 2019.

You’re right about January being cooler in Victoria and SA. Same can’t be said for the rest of the country.

Yeah, I do like the really cold days but my heat tolerance has dwindled the older I get

It’s why I chose the SW Coast - regularly 5-7 degrees cooler than Melbourne in summer. Beautiful day today.

Nah, 28 to 30 every day dropping down to 22 every night. Loads of rain every third night.

Big light show happening currently.
With the hot weather we have had the last few days unfortunately I’d think we might see some spot fires from lightning strikes

What the hell is up with the clouds in. Melbourne tonight?

From my house it looks like the city is covered in really low, super low thick cloud, and then clear skies everywhere.

Skyline looks upside down. (Might be the negroni talking)

Pics?

Ok

So it’s hard to make out, but, this is looking out a window south towards the city, and it’s darker now than before when I noticed. The clouds appear really thick and all the dark area above the clouds is clear blue (now black) sky.

It is not smoke, and presumably not steam but that’s what it looks like. but it looks so low, I wonder if it’s just above Fitzroy/Collingwood or over the city.

@theDJR @The_Ant @Gnik ome of these blokes will have a view, maybe not DJR, bit further out.

Was tempted to turn your pic into a horror movie poster.

Recently, in fact most of the summer, it’s as if Melbourne could name itself as the sister city of Aotearoa.

It looks super scary!

Getting belted down here. Thunder rattling the Windows.

I guess this is weather related.

I’ve been in this house for 20 years now, and never before have I seen so many, but also so many different sorts of fungi popping up in the back yard and back paddock.
