The Weather Thread (not allowed to talk about rain)

It was minus 6 C on my back deck at 7:30 am this morning. Coldest I can ever remember here.

I wouldn’t mind some 40C days.

The wind has disappeared for a few days on the SW coast, and the mornings are very fresh, but lovely afternoons. It won’t last.

Meanwhile, in hot old London town …

The Underground and its trains are shocking when it’s mildly warm (no air conditioning). At 40º…

It’s been very hot there for 2-3 days by British standards but the fact that millions of them each year travel to the likes of Spain, Portugal, Greece, Malta etc where high 30s/low 40s are a regular feature of their summers and then the absolute meltdown when it hits their home country is really something else…

As usual the Met Office and weather broadcasters over there go overboard. Predicting 43C a few days before the heatwave struck and it ended up creeping just above 40C in a few spots (and mostly at weather stations adjacent to airport runways). Still exceptional for that part of the world but like I said in an earlier post they love adding a few degrees in summer…

Warmer than Sydney and Brisbane today.

19 degrees tomorrow and Thursday here in Melbourne. Beginning of August!
It will be very windy tonight and tomorrow morning though.

One hell of a lightning show in Greenvale at the minute. A few cells coming in from the north-northwest. Certainly a little unexpected this time of year, at least in this hemisphere.

Back in Colorado this is about the time of year we would get the monsoon and there’d be a pop up storm almost daily for a few weeks.

The north wind over the last few days (more to come) has given me hayfever like I haven’t had for years. Maybe I’ve got the Rona or a cold on top of that but it sucks.

Wattle has come out earlier than usual

That makes sense, our local Wattle Birds have been very active.

Thunder and lightning now in the Macedon Ranges.

Had two good rounds… was trying to get a good lightning photo but was too slow on the trigger. My wife got a few though.

And the heat grinds on over in the far side of the world.
A beautiful warm summer’s day once again. But dry as old boots in these southern counties
