The Wrestling Thread

Quality understated burn.

The jerky camerawork is back too. Between that and nuffies like Booker on commentary they make it a hard slog regardless of what the talent wrestlers do.

Large but very funny spoiler:

CM Punk now holds the shortest-ever reign for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

CM Punk held the World Heavyweight Championship for 5 minutes and 9 seconds, shorter than Drew McIntyre’s reign of 5 minutes and 46 seconds.

NOTE: there have been two WWE World Heavyweight Championships – the above is about the current one only.

That promo by cena on smackdown made zero sense. It made him look super weak. And if it’s all an act, then it makes Cody look like an idiot for believing him

unless Cody turns heel in the main event

Did it make more or less sense than the ending to Night One?

Less. That’s how bad it was

I will never understand the fascination WWE has with Rollins. His voice and promos are awful, his matches lack any sort of psychology.

and don’t get me started on Sami Zayn

That ending LOL

Also has there ever been a bigger botched storyline than cena’s heel run?

Turns out a generational baby face on a retirement tour cannot make people boo him, to the surprise of absolutely nobody. Should’ve pulled the heel turn years ago.

What a long meandering mess that main event was. Refused to commit to a story.

It wasn’t helped by all but one match of Night Two being “no DQ”. And many were TV-standard placeholders.

Lynch/Valkyria did have some good story-telling (but also weird botches), before they chose to throw that all away at the end.

I will always appreciate acknowledgement that Dom is Eddie’s son, but the match was throw-away comedy.

And where the ■■■■ was Cody at the end?

chucked night 2 for background noise while i was doing some repairs on work gear

woof. tlc was fun, aj dom was ok, and the main event had some moments. but otherwise it was a rather dire 4 hours.

i’ve defended the cena heel turn all year, but its time to eat my words. shithouse.

hard agree. probably up there as my least favourite main eventer they’ve ever had. and not even in a “oh i hate this guy” way, it’s a “go on my phone when he’s on” thing.

I blame The Rock he ghosted after Cena turned heel we haven’t seen him or been involved since.

He should have least turned up at some point when the heel turn was losing steam and give it a push along.

The thing is if any one could use the “I did it because you people are a bunch of ■■■■■” it’s Cena but they didn’t even do that right.

The fact is, he just wasnt a good heel.

Yep, I don’t think his heart was ever fully in it. The creative around it was just an abomination, which didn’t help

I watched the whole 2 days of Summer slam today.

While it wasn’t unbelievable. I thought it was solid.

The one thing that stood out was all the matches had a very generous run time.

The one thing I’m really struggling with, is the women’s matches. I think it’s the quality of the women’s division. 5-6 years ago, the women’s matches were 5x better than the men. Now I just skip them.

It does show that the 2 best women’s wrestlers in the world are at NXT.

I havent watched raw or Smackdown for about 2months. I had no idea why Cena came out as a baby face. They gave no explanation for it.

All the hardcore matches on day 2 were abit over the top. Surely some of these matches didn’t need to be hardcore.

Man, I loved this match. I was fully into it the whole time. Easily Cena’s best singles match in years. This was classic, main-event PLE Cena doing his thing — kicking out of everything, dishing it right back, and showing he’s still got it when he needs to turn it on.

It felt right having him back as a babyface. The crowd was all in, and he looked way more comfortable. Cody held his own, too. Yeah, they both kicked out of a million finishers - I get that’s not everyone’s cup of tea - but in a big show like this I don’t mind. It added to the drama, and the crowd clearly loved it.

Rhea & Iyo have been involved in some of the best matches of the year. If you haven’t seen it, check out their banger from Evolution a few weeks ago

Did love the Super Cena chant.

From what Triple H said he left it up to Cena.

Probably told Triple H that the heel run is not working and would have given the ok to go back to being a baby face.
