Time Essendon FC got rid of its Pokies licences

Can wear it on their sleeves.

At a much reduced rate of sponsorship. Most clubs would be fine but a couple might struggle to replace the income

I would ban all gambling advertising.
I’d put stricter regulations to try and stop (and help) problem gamblers.
But I’m not sure I have a problem with EFC having legal pokie licenses.

But then, I’d legalise most drugs.

Advertising has gone bananas. It needs to stop.

Plus…I’d vote for you @Ants if you’re pondering politics.

Need a lot more charisma than I have!

Yeah banning anything doesnt really work.

I just dont appreciate having stuff shoved down my throat.

Gambling should be just like smokes.

Its there but you have to go look for it(and verify your age before you see the odds).

All plain paper packaging so to speak

Many thanks to the Blitzers who contributed to this thread. I am pleased to announce that a number of us have gotten together and created a new grassroots group, called ā€œNo Pokies at Essendonā€ (NoPE)) whose object is to call upon the Essendon Football Club to make a meaningful and public commitment to exit the poker machine industry.

We are officially launching our website today (nope.org.au) and have created an Open Letter to Essendon FC for supporters to sign.

If anyone wants to support us by signing the Open Letter or becoming a member of our group, please visit our website at: nope.org.au

Thanks,

Dom

Thanks for the name drop, @Bacchusfox. Yep, NoPE.

Attached is an article from the Age reporting on the creation of NoPE. Hopefully more Blitzers can visit our website, sign the Open Letter and become a member of NoPE. The more of us who join together on this issue, the greater the pressure on the Club to get out of its pokies investments.

Well Dom

I read all on the website and I do accept your intentions are honourable.

I do not understand however that while you want the Bombers to drop pokies, that you accept it is OK for a private business to do it. I would have thought that problem gambling is not just a matter for the Melton or Windy Hill.

Alternatively adults could take responsibility for themselves, this country cannot get enough of banning things

Next stop - opinions

We’re almost there

Pokies destroy lives. They are a scourge on society.

@Bacchusfox

I appreciate you taking the time to check us out.

NoPE is just focussed on Essendon’s poker licence investment. I personally don’t think that, from a moral perspective, the club should be involved in this sort of business. NoPE gives us a chance to voice our opposition.

All my discussions with members of NoPE have reinforced that they all love Essendon. We are doing this in the hope the club will listen to us. Before creating NoPE, most of us had contacted the club on this issue and they didn’t even respond.

fkg lol, dont get the one of bacchus and his money eating machines that have flashy lights and go ding ding ding

100% correct!

Thanks @wimmera1

If you email your address to [email protected], I am sure our president would be happy to mail you a NoPE badge.

Go Bombers!

I’m happy to buy the pokies off the club. I will sleep just fine at night.

I think its sad that we continue to rely on these machines to generate cash for us. All pokie venues are sad, depressing places. The stores Ive heard from people who work at Windy Hill are grim.

Surely if Paul Little had a soul he would buy these machines and relegate them to the scrapheap.
