Members should be prioritising on field performance before removal of ponies to be frank.
Essendon can’t financially continue to fund its football operations without them.
Until the club can be sustainable without ponies it would be reckless to complete a petition like this. It would be putting the clubs viability and ongoing capacity to support its football department at a level of risk.
Once the on field form improves and the operations if the club become healthier, then a conversation could in theory be had.

I’d rather be ■■■■ for decades then take money away from people in danger of addiction. Ethics, big thing in life. Lets make this club financially sound the right way, by winning games in the long run. Dont worry, we have plenty of back up, both from the AFL & those filthy rich men and women that run the club behind the scenes

I appreciate the position you are taking. One thing I do not want to do though is revert to a backup plan that relies on the “AWFL” or “filthy rich men and women that run the club behind the scenes”. This comes at a cost as well a significant cost. We have already lost some of our soul, this would be selling the rest of it.

One of the benefits of reading the resolution before posting against it is that you may find out it doesn’t do the things you assume it does:
We understand non-football income streams are vital to football clubs and this
acknowledgement would not obligate the Essendon Football Club to stop earning revenue from EGMs.

Well do we even know how much revenue we are getting off these pokies? I haven’t gone through financial statements.
If we are hanging on by a string and the only thing keeping us afloat is the pokies then we need to get rid of some expenses.
I cant believe people are okay with keeping the pokies going.

The club’s financials provide a high level summary of revenue, expenses and profit from the clubs but it is very much smoke and mirrors. That is something I would like changes so we have some transparency around the gaming venues.
The club has been spending a lot of money over the past few years and I’m not convinced it has been value for money. It costs money to pay out staff that are employed for 1 day, let alone run 3 ovals and pay high salaries to the admin staff.
I don’t agree personally. For me it’s winning premierships is the top priority. That’s what I plough my money into the club for.
And the club can’t continue to rely on ‘wealthy’ rich men any longer. They’ve done the heavy lifting the last decade or more…
And that’s fine. I’m more principally against the requirement to exit. These venues employ lots of people and are a healthy focal point for communities. Accept that there’s a group who are vulnerable and whose lives are impacted. On that, I’d rather consider other ways of helping them rather than shutting ponies venues / divesting from them.
Its laughable that people whinge about pokies when one of our official partners is CUB.
But alcohol is cool so that’s ok.

Yea, I am not for keeping Pokies, my preference is that we move away as soon as possible. You want to cut off the stream now, fair enough. I don’t want to have to rely on others especially the AFL.
