The NoPE argument is childish.
“No more pokies, because it’s nicer that way.”
“We don’t know how else for you to make the money, just be nicer.”
FARK OFF NoPE.
The NoPE argument is childish.
“No more pokies, because it’s nicer that way.”

FARK OFF NoPE.
Is that really the Nope argument?
I doubt it. What are you trying to say?
What about venue agreements where we receive a percentage of the profits from alcohol sales?
Are you also against receiving any form of government funding?
It could technically. However, I’d rather they commit and hold themself accountable to a short, more defined timeline to secure a replacement initiative first to ensure it’s not able to dither for longer and just sit on the windfall which I’d prefer to be used in a future fund in large part.
What if we defund the Police and Essendon take their funding instead?
Totally. While we’re at it public schools and hospitals are a complete waste of valuable gambling revenue too.
Yes, I get it, no money trail is perfect. We all have our own imaginary line that we draw. Alcohol is on one side of my line and pokies are on the other.
Which ruins more lives?
yeah i dont really care to be honest, but must be nice to care about something enough to actually do something about it, even if it is a bit…
Revenue is the club’s job, they’re not paying me to figure it out. Isn’t that obvious?
I don’t know. Calculating the net impact of each would be difficult, for sure. I’m not about to dedicate my life to it though for the sake of answering some whataboutisms.
But, these people like alcohol, so it’s different.
The government juggles this same line, take marijuana vs tobacco for example. One is perfectly legal, regulated and the government benefits from the revenue it generates to help fund important social services.
Would you sleep better at night knowing the government stopped deriving an income from the sale of cigarettes?
How about we just let the club make as much money as they can through as many legal revenue streams as possible. And stop this crap.
Let me help you. about 1% of people have gambling problems. About 17% have alcohol addictions. They say that 1-3 drink dangerous levels of alcohol over the age of 14.
I really don’t see the point in continuing down this road, sorry. My stance is pretty simple, and I know I can’t convince anyone of it by doing the everlasting “what about this?” game. I’ve had similar convos about source of funding/ownership for other sporting clubs and it’s never evolved beyond the points we’ve already covered.
Because there is no argument.
It’s a moral argument. That’s it.
Because “other” clubs are beholden to snowflakes or depend on significant AFL subsidies just to stay afloat.
