Mate of mine made a really good point today.

The dees desperately needed some coaching stability but the list was/is in such poor shape that any coach would be on a hiding to nothing. so much so that by the end of their second year the media would be all up in their face again calling for sackings etc.

Appointing roos and having the succession plan is as close as they could get to guaranteeing some clear air and a stable coaching environment for 4 years even if the results took 4 years to show.

By which point Cross, Vince, Lumumba et al will be on their way out the door. And there's a bunch of plodders who were a problem under Neeld or even Bailey.

It may well occur that the team turns the corner. Eventually, law of averages, it has to. But it looks a hell of a lot like his gameplan is killing any chance at building momentum. And it looks a hell of a lot like Vince, Byrnes et al have just been short term band aids.

Demons chief executive Peter Jackson yesterday moved to clarify comments made by Roos on AFL360 on Monday night.

Roos slammed the “negative environment” engulfing Melbourne after Sunday’s demoralising loss to lowly Carlton at the MCG on Sunday.

“He’s talking about the supporters. He’s not talking about within the club,” Jackson said.

“He’s talking about supporters and coteries and people like that. He’s said that before around the place.

“I know it didn’t come over sounding like that, but that’s what he was talking about.

“There’s no negativity within the club at all.

“We’ve just done a culture and engagement survey with all the staff and all the players and they are world record results. Everyone wants to get on the journey.

LOL. How the ■■■■ did we let this peanut have free reign at our club for as long as we did.

Guessing that survey would be as effective at ‘engagement’ with fans as their TEAMelbourne idea amongst other failures of fan ‘summits’ they’ve had.

As for Roos, he’s Malcolm Blight mk II.

Didn't they move to chop the Demons moniker at some point to chase the Chinese dollar?? Always a good move.

Most of the media believe that the Pies are in a rebuild phase so are cutting Figjam some slack over performances this year. This happens next year and the knives will be out.

Maybe DKP is right. He’s been telling us for ages the club will improve when the supporters raise their expectations.
