One ruckman is an issue. Firstly, it leaves us without any injury coverage at all. But even if Ryder gets through unscathed we really didn’t want Joe having to ruck for significant minutes week after week. He will get hammered up forward as it is.
I can’t give an opinion on Thurlow and what he could offer. But I’d be amazed if he is good enough to cover a senior role and take a spot in the sub-rule era.
Hille, Gumby , crameri and belly missing from the 2013 list is a big hit to the structure for 2014.
Darren jolly, evil laugh, cat stroking.
still wouldn't want him with 0 ruckmen.
1 ruckman is not an issue it's more our forward set up. Hurley needs to play forward until T Bell comes back Imo. With only Carlisle up forward, players like S.Thompson and Lake will feast on JD.
Fletch, Hooker and Pears can cover down back.
if JD draws those guys he gets on his bike and draws them up the ground. if they drop off him he gets a stack of easy ball and we then as a team have to be smart enough not to bomb to their spare like we did most of last year (this is where licha and chappy will be so important IMO).
for mine his best footy last year was played against GC up across centre half fwd / wing anyway.
i wouldn't be sending hurley back just to cover tbell. i think it is more important that the backline get settled.
As it is i think it was unlikely that we would have played JD early on unless he went bananas in a few preseason games and we would have instead gone with a carlisle/tbell/medium structure. tbell's injury pretty guarantees that is the structure we will see come round one unless thurlow does something completely unexpected. i'm more concerned about exposing JD to part time ruck duties than brian lake et al, i'd hate to see sandilands break him in half in round 4 while ryder is resting on the pine late in the 3rd.

throw jenkins into the list of talls that we have lost over the last couple of seasons. this is where the draft sanctions are going to bite. i don't doubt that our decision to take the two gws boys was at least partly motivated by our exclusion from the first two rounds and i think it is reasonably fair to assume that our first round pick would have been used on a tall (apeness most likely)
This is not good at all. If Ryder goes down, we are in big trouble.
Daniher and Thurlow can now hold up our ruck division.
ohhh just great. when Ryder has a brain fade and gets suspended who's gonna ruck? We're screwed!!!!
I’d rather see Carlisle pinch hitting in the ruck over JD. Or they can share it.
Either way, I think our forward structure will be better for only having one ruck. It’s just… Well, Ryder has to stay on the Park.

Agree that our forward line will better balanced with just the one ruck.
Joe will give him a chop out. I'm not sure why people think he'll break in half if he has to play as the relief ruck. He rucked every game he played last year, and he would be better prepared physically to take on more.
we’ll be fine. ryder rucked for a year by himself after hille did a knee on anzac day. im sure he can manage for 4 weeks. belly will be back for anzac day.
chapman carlisle zaharakis

Only worry I have about Ryder is the he gets reported for some stupid tackle/bump/whatever.
Meltdown.

Are you sure you needed a Kommer?
Ps. I'm not sure if he's a forward, maybe a sub or half back player that chases.
I hope to see him improve a lot if he stays up forward.
He has incredible potential, but like a lot of our list, needs substantial belief and confidence to get anywhere near the top four clubs of the past five years. In our defence, we do have a young list.
What this club needs is a commitment to the art and skill of the game, a year that compares to 2000 or 1993.

Extactly, a 3rd string ruckman who either can't or hasn't broken into any other clubs starting 22, was never going to save us much if one or both ruckman went down, So i've never understood the hysteria around this problem.
The forwardline issue is the bigger concern, but again it presents a problem that needs a solution. If the club and coaches are smart enough, they will figure out a way to win games with or without our best 22 players on the park. If they can't, well they shouldn't be coaching anymore.
all it comes down to is it's a challenge. either we are good enough to overcome it, or we aren't. If we lost Belly in the last week of the season, going into the finals campaign, would you give up or would you figure out quick smart how to cover his loss ? it really is that simple.
Ces up next on sen to give us the run down
Ces reckons it was close to needing a full ankle reconstruction.
3 months minimum
