Tom Rockliff

As I stated earlier in this thread - this is not true. Rockliff has missed 22 games in the last 8 seasons - average of 2.75 games missed per year or about 1 in every 8.

Compare that with most players and you will find he isn’t injury prone. Heck Fletch nearly took 500 games to play 400 meaning he missed 1 in every 5. No one ever claimed Fletch missed too many games.

Why did we bother re-signing Zaharakis then given they are the same age? Re Rockliff’s durability refer my post above.

Also one other point - do you think signing Goddard was a bad move. Personally I think it was sensational and he has done great things for us. But by your type of comments you would not have wasted the money or years on BJ.

Who cares how he gets them if he plays for us

I think the point is that he’ll stop getting them if he plays for us. If I was him I’d want to play for Hawthorn or Footscray.

There’s a difference between rewarding within and throwing money at an old bloke from another club.

That said. I wouldn’t mind getting Rockliff.

Yeah but do they still count as clearances?

I agree that there is a big difference between keeping someone or going out and getting someone else from another club. However the point is why would you commit to one rising 28yr old but completely ignore another.

That’s because he missed lots of those games because he was a dirty rotten tripper!

Especially when neither of them are 28.

Agree - but i did say rising 28 year olds, which they both will be come Round 1 2018. Its not like they are 34.

When you have to spend 95% of your cap he dosen’t really cost you anything other than the opportunity to get someone else. If we can’t attract anyone else, he really only costs us money we have to spend anyway. He is 28 next February and has beem doing well with a team that has been struggling, so one would hope that there would be upside to his performances should he come to us. He would also strengthen our group and provide leadership, and harder contests for the young blokes we hope will be our future. I can’t see how improving the team is an issue.

So we want to get this guy and pay him around the same money as Hurley and Hooker and more than Joe…oh please

To be our 2nd best mid next year. Why wouldn’t you.

Considered the state of our embarrassing midfield, you’d be mad not to go after him.

almost all the moves the club have made over the past 2-3 years have suggested we’re banking on the Heppell and younger gen, not the ‘here and now’.

Crameri, Melksham, Carlisle were here the year before Hep, Hibberd same year as Hep but as a mature ager
Vs
Green, Dea and Stewart, Hartley all younger. Kelly and Leuny the only exceptions

I just don’t think he’s that good

Get him in!!! Exactly what we need. Instantly a better side with him in. Has been a gun for years can’t believe people don’t think he is good.

Have you seen our midfield? It’s not very good either. He easily walks in there and does plenty of the things we are missing.

To attract players of All Australian quality you need to offer them more than they would get elsewhere. This is why offering Rockliff that much money is worthwhile on the basis he is demanding 800k and we can afford to pay it.

I think players recognise you sometimes have to spend to get players. I’m sure if we were getting a guy who’d be in our top couple of mids into the side, they would accept that for the chance of success.

Interestingly, Belly, Hurley and Hooker sit outside that profile.
