I admit i don;t rate Hepp anywhere near as highly as most around here. I have been happy with his leadership this year though, but as iv’e said before wouldn;t have him in the top 30 mids in the comp.
My non-AFL husband (he’s a rugby man) watches all our televised games and said that Heppell is by far the hardest working player in our team. He was impressed with just how often Heppell is around the play and invariably bobs out of a pack with the ball. Trust me, this is high praise.
Just personal opinion i rate mids that are damaging with their disposal and also ones that hit the scoreboard. Plus ones that deliver in finals and big games.
I won’t do 30 because i cbf but i’ll list a few from some clubs off the top of my head.
Considering 30 is less than 2 players per club. I also wouldn’t put hepp in our top 2 mids either, i’d have merrett and dev smith ahead of him. But anyhow:
Richmond: Cotchin, martin
West coast: Gaff, shuey
Collingwood: Pendlebury, sidebottom, treloar
Giants: Ward, coniglio, sheil, kelly
Port: Wines, Boak, Gray
Cats: Dangerfield, selwood
Swans: Kennedy, Hanneberry, parker
Bulldogs: McCrae, Bontempelli
Interesting discussion and all just opinion. I really rate Hepp.
On exposed form and your PA crew, I don’t think that Wines has had as good a year as Hepp. Boak was a good footballer but is miles off Hepp this year and if we are talking midfielders then Gray hasn’t done anywhere near the damage that Hepp has through the middle and plays a lot in the fwd 50.
I reckon we take Hepp for granted. I’d also take him ahead of your Pies three mids.
Agreed. Higgins (rattlers) and Beams have had excellent seasons so I’d include them.
I think we mark Hepp hard. He’s a bit like Stants for mine. He works really hard, isn’t exceptionally quick and his changers/turnovers stand out and are remembered. He’s lead strongly this year and been great.
