Trade Talk 2019: who should we beat our chest like an ape about now?

In that situation I’d be gobsmacked if we were reportedly pushing Zaka out the door for a third round pick.

It would depend on the market. Right now because of the cap problems GWS have it is a buyers market. If we were offloading players needing to get rid of cap space we too would have to take unders.

Otherwise come Wednesday it will be a free for all on their list. They must be under come end of trade period, or they are stuffed.

I’m surprised that North hasn’t lobbed an offer for Josh Kelly, just incase a trade falls through at the last minute and they need a trade done ASAP.

I think Scully’s best fits our current needs better than Martin. The flip side is there is some uncertainty as to whether he can get back to his best owing to his injury. Fwiw he has a reputation for being uber professional so I’d be backing him in.

Martin on the other hand might develop into the end to end wing we want but at the moment he isn’t that, maybe though he frees Fanta up to play that role more and Fanta can certainly do it. Martin is a better age and probably a bit cheaper but also less attainable it would seem.

If everything were to go right I think the best of Scully on the wing with the best of Fanta forward is more damaging than the best of Fanta on a wing and Martin forward. It is probably splitting hairs though.

On balance if we could land Scully this year I’d go for it. Bird in hand etcetera

Less $$$$ but I’m not sure we can get a trade done.
I’m also not sure he is more the position we need. Martin is potential and Scully is a very very good footballer.
Both would be good.
Are the club at all confident of getting the Martin trade done??

It is interesting how the new rules seem to be shifting player priorities. Runners are very much sought after. I’d be interested to see James Stewart get a decent go next year as his running power and work as a link man could be very useful

It not just clearing salary cap space to get under the cap but also so they can make competitive offers to the likes of Kelly (who is out of contract next year and who North will come hard at again) and Cognilio who is a free agent next year.

Also how is it surprising they are looking to offload Patton…man mountain who has the agility of the Titantic coming back from his third knee reco now?

Bloke seems pretty much cooked to me for the modern game.

Depends on the structure of your forward line. He doesn’t work with Cameron and Himmelberg because collectively they don’t provide enough pressure. If you put him up forward with small/medium sized players who have zip and tackle that would be ok. He crashes packs and is a great kick. With new rules allowing him to protect his space not many guys will be able to defend him one on one

Hard to imagine Stephen Silvagni being involved in cooked books.
And would make absolutely no sense with how many GWS players have been traded to C*nton for a packet of chips, like SoS knew about a dodgy situation and took advantage.

Nope, wouldn’t make sense. Nothing to see here.

Would not surprise.

In fairness though most of their intake has been garbage though. GWS happily casting off ordinary players like Kennedy etc

And Blues thinking they doing well getting 3 for 1 deals from the specials basket

What possible gain would GWS get from giving Hawthorn Scully for pick 53. Yes, I know cap issues, but surely there’s a SINGLE Victorian club that would have him for something better than pick 53? Pick 53 is fcking nuts.

All the GWS players traded to the Scum end up sh*t anyway.

It surely won’t happen

If we are aligning potentially giving them our 9, future 1st & a player for some comination of the two players to us and maybe some second rounders back GWS just won’t deal with Hawks.

Who knows where this Hawks are getting him one late pick has come from anyway. Tom Browne said something but not sure he started it.

Probably Scullys manager released it to media as wants to get him there if $$ best / injury management.

Mark Whiley, Kristian Jaksch, Liam Sumner, Rhys Palmer, Andrew Phillips, Jed Lamb, Lachie Plowman, Caleb Marchbank, Jarrod Pickett, Matthew Kennedy.
Only Marchbank is great out of that lot. Kennedy serviceable in a very poor team. Rest are garbage

If the door is well and truly shut on Martin this year we should go for Scully and offer him a front loaded contract to free up space next year ifcao allows

The idea that the AFL had a big role in GWS list management and recruitment fits well with the way Fitzpatrick went ape over Sydney “poaching” Franklin from GWS. His reaction says it all. An “independent” AFL wouldn’t have had such a big reaction.
Although, it must be said that Fitzpatrick, being the absolute pr!ck that he is, might react that way to anything at any time.

So why do I/we see scarves and sometimes socks in the junk shops with the correct team colours and the team name on them (without the team’s logos), surely that would be able to be linked to the AFL’s IP? I am not having a go at what you said as I believe it, I am just asking the question.

That offer includes a future 2nd round pick is what I was told this morning by someone connected to Hawthorn. They are trying to get wingard for 15 + burton and keep pick 35 for the draft. Port pushing to swap a 2019 3rd for 35 in the wingard deal.
