Trade talk - from August 2024

It is a laugh obviously, but what you’ve listed there does highlight exactly why Stringer leaving is absolutely what’s best for us. It needs to happen.

Because even if you substitute Lynch for whoever else (2nd ruck, Wright, Jones, Z Reid, Cox, Shanahan or think of the key forward from another list you’d love to plug in there), having BOTH Langford and Stringer there as third talls is overkill. That needs to be a dynamic, two way running player.

Small problem on how to fit a 1.2-1.7 million dollar contract onto a list that needs to re-sign Warner still. Not happening.

Yep I’m in the trade out Stringer, but it looks like he’s gonna stay.

Then do you move Langford to defence to play in Nick martins role.
Might be better for his body to handle rigours of AFL.

b: McGrath McKay Reid
hb: Redman Ridley A Davey
c: Martin Durham Duursma
hf: J Davey Caddy Gresham
f: Stringer Wright Kako
r: Draper Parish Merrett
int: Langford Perkins, Caldwell, Jones, Roberts

Davey gets a hard run here.
Essendon wins more when he plays
I’d still lvoe to see Alwyn at half back

Sydney don’t worry about such things

No.

so play stringer in the VFL then?

Double triple giga no

Never suggest this again

He has no leg speed and will get torched by teams with actual small forwards.
Think Heppell any time we played Collingwood the last 4yrs

Langford’s role vs Lions was perfect. Up the field more running back to goal.

 at present, Davey is lucky to get in the VFL team, let alone be considered for a recall to the Senior team!

I’d rather do this than play Langford back tbh.

But best case scenario is Stringer finds a club willing to offer him two years and he moves. If it’s not already actually stitched up and they haven’t announced it that is.

The more radical option is the one @ivan promotes which is to solve the matter by really getting value by trading out Langford if you can get a first rounder for him to help the non existent rebuild.

Langford on a wing could be good, should try this.

You keep saying this but it doesn’t make sense to me.

We can’t rebuild or bottom out because we have signed long term contracts with our core group.
Ridley
Redman
Parish
Mackay
Merrett
Pidge

Unless we blow up the list ala Richmond it’s just not happening.

So we have to tweak at the fringes whilst adding young talent to what we already have.

We can’t be having a “sit on our hands” trade/FA period. Playing around with window dressing won’t get us anywhere. To be honest, any of us could tell Wanganeen, Baldwin and Hind that their services were no longer required. And by extension the likes of Weideman and Kelly. We have failed miserably if we don’t do any of the below:

  • Move up the draft order with our first pick. Get it well and truly out of reach for a potential Kako bid.
  • Trade some of our contracted players to address areas of need (any of Redman, Ridley, Parish, Perkins, Shiel, Hobbs, Wright), and/or improve draft hand.
  • Have a serious look at Petracca and/or Houston. What does a potential deal look like?

If we just mosey along not knowing whether we are Arthur or Martha, the same ■■■■ will keep happening. There needs to be a circuit breaker somewhere along the line.

They dont have room or a need for him

Swoop in for Dan Houston Bombers and cut RtB’s lunch.
Redman plus someone else maybe to go the other way?

Well fans have to be prepared to not see a finals win for the length of their tenure because those players aren’t taking us anywhere.
Strap yourself in for 8th-14th for the next 5 years

I’m of the opinion that we cannot continue to play Stringer and Langford in the same forward line. We cannot play Gresham and Menzie in the same forward line either. They are all too slow and simply are unable to chase defenders and hurrry them in their disposals or tackle them.

Club should try and trade Stringer to the Demons given the Petracca debacle…they might need a mid-sized forward who is light defensively but can kick 40 odd goals!

Bottoming out isnt necessary.(any more)

Theres so many other ways to add talent to a footy list other than a early first round draft pick.

Port will want Redman and a first
