Trade talk - from August 2024

We are worse tbf

Who do you think we should delist or put up for trade nino?

Because we need more than a quick fix. If you want to bring in quality players you have to give up something too. I know in your fantasy world you want to bring in A or B graders for a pick in the 70’s but reality is different.
You want someone like Houston then you will be coughing up a first so we either throw away this years first for another quick fix or you have to trade out someone like Parish, Redman or McGrath that will get you a first

I’m with you. Everyone jumps the gun and blames the talent on the list or lack thereof. We have that many first round picks on the list it’s crazy, earlier in the year there were many praising the talent on the list. As much as almost everyone blames dodoro, most of his draft picks have been well publicised as natural picks at that stage of the draft. It’s not like he selected players that phantom drafts suggested we’re going to go in the 30’s as first round picks…

Unfortunately our issues are bigger than that. Our issues are high performance related. We can’t get our players to commit to high quality footy for a full season. That’s the issue, it’s cultural. We need someone to fix that, I hoped it was Brad Scott but I’m not sold. He has protected the players (externally at least) whereas someone like Mitchell as much as it pains me to say has got a list that has clearly overachieved and still demands more. They lost a respectable game and he said to his players you’ve used the last of your lives now, to make finals there cannot be any more slip ups. Brad Scott would come out, publicly at least and say we did everything right but just couldn’t convert. It’s not a talent or recruiting issue, our club accepts poor performance. Others don’t and that’s why other sides have gone past us.

I just hope that the internal message from Brad is very different to the external message

They wont delist menzie after signing him, or reid

I think you could put kelly & hind into the delist pile and i actually like your list. That to me would be a successful off season

Yep forgot about Hind.

Wright, Shiel and Stringer might get a pick in the 50’s each
Lav is give away for free
Cox would be lucky to get a pick in the 40’s
Hobbs or Tsatas might get a pick in the late teens or better

I think we could get a second rounder for Wright a club like Pies or Melbourne would imo

If Wright could clunk a mark, he’d be worth keeping. Unlike our other forwards, he can actually kick straight.

Farrrk you got me! Should have used 12 years instead of 10, huge lesson for me there.

It’s hard to line the blame up here because obviously it’s not his go to have big bombs on his head. Can he get better? Maybe but idk

Could we much improve and clean up our entries and actually get him running and hit him on leads? Yeah for sure. I always think back to the game against the Doggies where he kicked 7 or whatever

Edit: but if he keeps it up next year like this then he’ll be VFL relegated and eventually delisted. I think we’ve seen that 2 rucks and 2MP doesn’t work so… probably not the best stability wise to be frequently changing the ruck setups

edit 2: I’d be expecting him to kick 4+ most weeks in the VFL though surely, no idea where he’s gone this drastically wrong

I would ask the question about malcom rosas jr and joel jeffrey as small forwards from the suns who have fallen out of favour and might not cost much. They will have Lombard coming in who they need points for. Also have 3 picks in the first round if we could bring one of those in.

Joel Jeffrey is 6ft 4. Rosas I’d be very interested in. He definitely has plenty of upside. He’s a little bit of a cat at times but he really can play.

The issue is, Gold Coast are a side who really lack small forwards as well. Like actual small forwards. As opposed to vanilla workhorses like Holman and Berry.

From the Jones thread…

Yeah. Certainly too many third talls is a big issue. I suspect caddy and cox are too.

We need to make some decisions to address the balance issue but certain players seem untouchable.

We should have a look at a forward line of wright and caddy with no Langford .

Maybe Langford is actually the guy to trade out for a first round pick and that unlocks things.

Offer for Trade - shiel, stringer, wright, langford, Jones and draper aiming for 3 firsts with maybe a few pick swaps to balance and a second rounder or 2). Potentially not all firsts this year

Take 6 first round picks and 3 second in the next two drafts (kako + 1, 3 x kp, 5 best ball users who aren’t afraid of contact).

That would be an incredibly brave approach but i look at that and think it’s pretty exciting and a real break from our historically conservative approach

He’s still a livewire forward turned backman who when I’ve watched looks to play small. Thing about suns is they already have so much young talent and bringing in more talent every year with their academy so their will always be some being squeezed out. It will be hard to push out the big three Anderson, Rowell, and Touk so players being drafted as mids are probably being plugged in to play a different area of the ground. I say we lure them with the opportunity to play their true position

We tried to get Rosas previously as well. Would be a fantastic list acquisition for us.

You don’t want to rebuild but you want to move on 13 players :joy:

Never change Nino.

Fark, i really missed that one

It could work, but we need to move one of the medium forwards Stringer or Langford on.
5 man bench would help too.
