That’s true of Geelong but not true of the Hawks. Their best players are mainly rookie draft picks, late national draft picks, and discards.
a few here are bitter about not making finals/winning finals and want to bottom out, clean out the list and start again. Like Carlton did. sounds fun hey!
We’ll see.
Their success could be short lived.
Dont worry blitz, we’ll finish above the cats soon, the cliff is coming for them
We shouldn’t take any risks with our list, because some supporters want to just go the footy each week and support a meek/mediocre/partially-competitive team……… Because it doesn’t sound like fun to make the real sacrifice to become a top 4 team.
A fit Parish and Tsatas should help improve these numbers.
Also, Setterfield. Fallen off the earth it seems.
Injured and then not recalled when healthy towards end of season.
We were better when he played previously, or am I just dreaming that?
God, could you imagine? Getting embarrassed in an elimination final after only just qualifying in the last round of the season? I’m glad we’ve never done that. That must be horrible.
Woe is us, not like it’s not self inflicted.
The wildcard weekend would have sorted Carlton out and resulted in a Brisbane v Collingwood final, which would have been a cracker. Dillon went weak at the knees again though, so we’ll keep getting those types of finals.

LOL, Sam Mitchell and Adam Kingsley joined the Hawks and GWS at the same time as Brad did Essendon. To say there is a lack of talent there is one thing, but to say we can’t learn a gameplan over 2 years is laughable at best. Like Whoosha, this guy is taking this club for a ride
Just a note on attention to detail.
Mitchell has had coaching roles at Hawthorn for the last six years, head coach for three after they moved Clarko on in 2021.

I respect this about the Hawks and also the Cats. These successful teams are evidence that high draft pick-focused rebuilds are overrated.
Hawks have plenty of first round picks. Geelong keep getting gifted players.
Contracted players shouldn’t have a choice in where they get to go.
I don’t mind taking risks, but the idea we have to bottom out otherwise we will never progress is simplistic and lacks imagination. The insistence of some here that it is the only way is akin to a child sitting in the middle of the room for all to see having thrown all their toys out of the cot having a good sulk.
Yes we can see you,- no need to slam everyone that has a differing ideas or opinions to you. We love a good discussion of how we can approach it, but your immovable stance, repetition and snide responses aren’t needed in response to everyone who thinks differently.
I’d prefer a system which taxes/punishes high performing teams in these trades/recruitments.

Nope i just think its not all doom and gloom
yep - as with a lot of discussions/arguments, the truth typically lies somewhere in the middle.
Based on this year, we are not all crap, but we are also not just shy of being a top side.
I think we need to be more aggressive/ruthless/analytical in how we manage the list and team selections. I think sentiment has been too influential in our list/selection policy.
We do ok with the free reno’s and property market for our players. Every club has a few avenues.

What makes everyone so confident that finishing bottom four for a few years gurantee us success in the future?
Bottom 4 is over rated
Its corporate speak but its true.
Culture eats Strategy for breakfast.
You have a good culture and you get good players.
Sydney and Geelong have been operating like that for over a decade.
Same with Collingwood.
This just shows how flawed the Inside 50 stat is. It counts a garbage long bomb to 35m out (our speciality) as exactly the same value as a precision laser pass that hits a leading forward on the chest. Getting it inside 50 means next to nothing if it doesn’t result in a decent shot on goal and ours too often just end up being turned over. We’re too slow to move the ball (hence the lovely disposal effiency numbers - we chip it around and fk around for too long) so by the time we do get within 70m of goal there’s a sea of players in our 50. Every Essendon person knows this is our biggest issue, I look forward to seeing how the coaches fix it!
We are top 2 for centre clearances as well and have excellent disposal efficiency.
The problem is our forward line is too slow and dysfunctional. Some of that is circumstantial some is personell.
Picking up Caddy was a big step in the right direction.
