Trade talk - from August 2024

They have no choice now. It’s an opportunity no doubt. But it’s bloody risky too…

All their premiership players have checked out.

Apart from Warner all swans good players now are academy picks

  • Gulden #32
  • Blakey #10
  • Heeney #2
  • Mills #3
  • Braeden Campbell #5 looks like could be a future star now too.

The equalisation system is built this way for a reason.

You spend time At the bottom of the ladder, you draft elite young players…. Then drift back up over time.

It’s only us who are stupid enough to believe we can buck that system. (Except Geelong).

How is it equalisation when GWS,Swans,Brisbane continue to have access to elite talent every year via their acadmies.

They have access to the best zones compared to the rest of the comp

All zero premierships between them in the last decade really proves the inequity?

Some are more equal than others.

There should be no academies only thing that stays in place is F/S

Is that true or media bull? May end up being true, but I reckon I’ve seen reports Richmond were throwing decent offers at a couple of them to try to get them to stay

That wouldn’t be fair either

Its not enough though. Look how many different teams have won the premiership over the past 20 years.

Richmond 3
Hawthorn 4
Geelong 4
Collingwood 2
West Coast 2
Sydney 2

Clearly equalisation isn’t ■■■■■■■ working as the draft is an absolute pot luck and the competition has been totally manipulated for new franchises.

Its all bullshit. The AFL needs to do more.

They are trying to keep Graham.

Bolton will likely net two firsts. A single first for Baker and Rioli each. Some talk Rioli might get more.

I’d say they get four firsts for sure.

Swans and Lions have both played in grand finals
Some clubs haven’t even won a final in 10 years.

Should change the draft so the teams without a finals win for 10+ years gets a priority pick either first rd, mid or end of first round,

Years of sustained losses really makes fans jump off. A few blue baggers have jumped back on. But people give away footy as they lose hope.

Bad luck they can wait for f/s to develop like the rest of the comp

Ah so the quest for fairness only goes one way. Got it.

They can wait 15-20 years for their current players to have kids

That’s unfair.

I actually think they should scrap FS altogether, then give every club an academy with a fixed budget to do with whatever they please. But you can only take one player per year from it in the first round.

What it does show is that the draft is just one small piece of the puzzle in being a successful side.

So many on here think that hitting the draft early over a few years will somehow solve all our problems and result in a competitive side. There is absolutely no guarantee it fixes anything.

Yes, and of those two clubs, one of them has an academy.

Or have their retired players legally adopt talented youngsters.
