Merrett has won 5x b&fs at our club. Jack steven won 4 at St Kilda. Merrett is a better player than steven, clearly. But it says more about the clubs than the individual.

Not really. Merrett would probably be a Brownlow winner by now if he wasn’t at Essendon

Harldy gets injured Zac and the way he keeps him self fit and motivated can easily see him playing till 35

Merrett will play elite footy til 36 so to me he’s not your standard 29 year old

This was my first thought. You’d think Goddard would have had a bit to do with it and with Jackets on the way out and his best mate managing the list at Saints, they may know more about the Merrett’s mood with the club than other options.

Merrett leaving would also leave us with an enormous leadership shaped vacuum at the club. The players left would have to find a leadership group and captain…and that does scare me slightly!

But as I said in the Draper thread, there should be no sacred cows anymore.
We’ve overdone that for more than a decade and look where that’s got us.

Because Cox,Perkins,Reid worked out real well for us last time when we had a couple of first rounders.
There are no gurantees the players we draft will be better then Zac
