Trade talk - from August 2024

It’s the story behind the story that needs to be talked about.

What’s changed at Essendon recently for Merrett to be openly be disconnected from the club? The Stringer / Laverde in isolation wouldn’t be it… It’s what jettisoning these players represents about the recent pivot in the clubs direction. So, we have Scott and the club deciding recently it needs to pivot and change course whilst Merrett didn’t sign up to this change of course.

It’s a sign the club and captain are misaligned on the direction of the club. And I’ve been saying the club have been hopeless in communicating with fans as well. The club needs to be transparent about the direction it’s going. And bringing the captain on board probably would’ve been a great start :man_shrugging::thinking:

Can’t see Zach leaving.

Would be wierd if he does….would say a lot about the club.

I’d do it for NWM and Jack Steele and Owens

Nothing less.

Wim gets it

Wheres that coming from?

Come on, dont be so fkg gullible. Maybe youve had too much vitamin D.

The Merrett news doesn’t shock me. I was literally saying yesterday if they trade stringer it would create a domino effect with lav, shiel & that Merrett could want out.

Well here we farkin go.

If the club thinks we can win a final & go further with this group we fix our problem with stringer & move on.

If we don’t blow it all up now & don’t look back.

Well, get out from under the rock you live under and think about what’s obviously occurring in the background.

Actually its just dawned on me that he probably watched his best mate, Joe Daniher, last night be heroic for a great club which is going into a prelim and gave his manager a call “yeah man I want some of that Joe Daniher stuff too”.

Yeah hes gone.

You mean if it’s true? What is going on if it isn’t true?

I would hate seeing him play for another club. The only thing that would make me consider it was if max king was part of the trade.

I have zero doubt that Merrett will do a Danger/Zorko, and be playing at a high level till his mid 30’s.
Which means he has plenty of football left, and the Saints will have to pay thru the nose for it.

We’ve already got one wright. Don’t need 2

I know things can change but when i saw him in April at the sporting dinner i went to he couldnt stop praising Brad and how the club has put things in place to make us better just dosent seem the type of bloke who woud bail

Maybe, but with a report being out there you’d think that any number of other clubs would be calling his manager and the Saints get the blame for asking the question. It could be a very canny way of Merrett’s manager assessing the market for him.

That’s who they will offer because they know it also (internally), and it’s a List need for us.

how many drinks did he have?

Is there evidence of this? All I have seen is a Insta post from Zac locking in for 2025. A video from him to the fans on the website talking about the future.

Then you say club isn’t communicating with Zac? How do you know this?

Don’t confuse public communication with private.

You are drawing a long bow.

Yeah we could end up having 20 years without a finals win. The club is already destroyed
