Provided you are talking about the upcoming 2025 trade period, you don’t get a contracted player who was taken at pick 4 only two years prior for a second rounder. Wtf.
We wouldn’t have even traded Aaron Francis for a second rounder after two years.
There’s a bit of precedent here. If a player really struggles over their first few years, their value drops significantly.
Have a look at some of the trades involving some of the GWS first rounders a few years back, SPS, Konstanty, Dylan Stephens, Denver Granger Barass (delisted) etc
How much do you think Tsatas is worth if he wanted out last year? No chance we would have got more than a second rounder.
SPS (pick 6) - 5 years at Carlton
Konstanty (pick 20) - 2 years at Sydney
Dylan Stephens (pick 5) - 4 years at Sydney
DGB (pick 6) - 4 years at Hawks
That just reinforces my point.
Clubs don’t ship off blue chip top 5 draft investments after 2 years for second rounders. It doesn’t happen.
If Duursma had done very little after say 4 years at the club then yeah perhaps at that point you might be able to nab him for a second rounder. But not after 2.
The GWS situation all those years ago where they had a million of them may be the only exception but that’s not comparable circumstances.
Remember that GWS spud that went to hawthorn for their end of first rd pick.
Former pick 2. He was a
O’Rourke + 43 for 19+40
They also got Jon Patton cheap, but that was post a few acl’s and longer than 2 years in the system and a salary dump.
Thinking to a highly rated junior - maybe like the Caldwell deal - 2 second rounders.
now our second rounders will possibly be wiped out by academy kids anyway.
maybe get back norths 3rd and fourth.
And they threw in a bunch of seconds and thirds as well?
I mean, I know footy clubs are often run by idiots but that’s a shocking trade, unbelievably so. Makes me think there was a lot of intetest in our first
