Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

What is he worth? Mid/late first?

Would blitz be happy if we gave up this years picks for Reid and Duursma?

I think that would be a pretty damn good period for us personally.

Except those weren’t hindsight calls. EVERYONE was saying they needed a tall forward and McDonald was obvious. MOST here said they should do the JHF trade. Sure, maybe they don’t use pick 6 on the player who went pick 6. They could have fixed their forwards with Amiss (went #8) and Ward who went #7 would be handy as well. Wouldn’t change the narrative that Adelaide deal was amazing.

The only one that wasn’t so clearly called out was the Wiz, but plenty said they needed a top small forward given Sheezel clearly wasn’t going to play there.

Because the 2024 top 10 pick was seen as a much better pick than the mid-teens 2025 pick Melbourne thought they were giving up.

No idea around this years draft. But those two were both highly rated in what’s turning into a good one in retrospect i think.

And have some years in the system.

So yeah good .

But aren’t they both contracted for 2026? Hard to see Zane being let go.

Would be kind of weird if we had a pick good enough to draft the youngest Duursma and traded it for the middle Duursma. Not sure if that helps is get all the Duursma’s.

You can guarantee that Melbourne will trade their future first to get into this year’s first round.

Try our best to get Reid and Duursma this trade period, whilst keeping enough picks for our academy guys.

Thats an elite strategy imo.

We could potentially draft Willem and use other first to trade for Zane.

Yeah but isn’t the sister meant to be the best one?

What if we get Reid, Zane and then trade out our future first for Willem

How do you guarantee you’d get Willem if you trade out a future first?

I reckon you could get Zane for a second anyway

Lol, to be fair, he wasn’t at Essendon.

Interesting thing is that he said that Sam Mitchell made him feel that it was ok to make mistakes and that he didn’t feel he would be dropped for them.

Is this how our non first rounders feel like playing for Brad?

If NM were offering that, we’d be nuts not to try push to the front of the queue.

He might be frustrating but the lad is super talented. For a second round pick it’s absolutely worth any risk.

Would anyone here be willing to trade for JUH? Is he worth the risk? If it was a Second Rnd pick I’d be willing to risk it.

Looks like Blitz is trading away our 2nd rounders.

It would have to be really cheap. There’s no point throwing meaningful draft capital at a player who won’t get back on the park anytime soon.

Edit: I would add I doubt the Giants regret picking up Hogan, who had failed at two clubs previously. They didn’t give up much in real terms.

That’s it isn’t it. The talent is there and if right could compliment Caddy for 10years. Not even sure he looks like being an AFL player at the moment.
