Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Yeah there is probably something in that but the club itself as RoCo touched on have always been more ruthless in just doing what they think is best to achieve success even at the expense of feelings and sentiment.

Case in point was the way they moved on Tom Mitchell and Jaeger O’Meara in order to dive into their rebuild properly and prior to that the way they had no qualms telling premiership heroes Sam Mitchell, Mitch Lewis and Luke Hodge that they were done and so they traded them.

I guess the rate of success probably builds goodwill from the supporter base to trust them whereas we don’t really have the evidence to trust us.

Tabling all those options tells me West Coast know that Harley wants to leave.

My impression is that it’s not about money for Harley at West Coast.

Plus I feel like the coke heads may be doing this to pump up his value.

“He’s worth 8 first round picks…just look at what we think he’s worth!!”

Whats Harley Reid Worth in a trade with Essendon?
  • 1 First Round pick
  • 2 First Round picks
  • 3 First Round picks

Imagine end of year we could have say pick 4, pick 8, and 2 x early 20s, or convert those 2 x 20s into a first and then send all 3 for Reid.

I can’t fathom thinking the second option is the way to go.

If we have 3 and 6 then he’s worth 2 picks.

I can’t stress enough how terrible a decision it would be to bring Harley Reid to the club.

We are rebuilding.

We have holes on every line.

Harley plugs one hole, but I have significant concerns about his attitude and longevity.

I think it would be the type of decision that keeps us mediocre for another decade.

Yep. We should be looking to trade older players with value out.

We have very talented academy players tied to us who would could still draft with Reid.

I actually think this is the perfect year for us to be spending big on a player with draft capital.

Might as well take a chance to actually get one right then…

By drafting highly talented youngsters

Anyone not taking Harley Reid can go suck themselves.

Sheer lunacy not taking a talent like that on the table.

Gotta priortise getting the next McGrath and Cox I guess instead.

If you’re ever going to bail on a club what better opportunity then when the club captain also walks out the door.
