Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Rose coloured glasses. Besides the geographic stuff you can make the same argument for Hawthorn & Geelong and I can tell you now which destination(s) would be more attractive.

I would be floored if he has any interest in us at all.

No you can’t make the same argument across a lot of those points

The key Hawks/Cats have over us is stronger onfield presently, more likelihood of winning games and making / winning finals in the now

Which yes has its attraction but it’s not the whole picture. And he’s only 19, not 29 and success starved, not like needs to be selecting a team in the immediate window

In order for Reid to enter, which players are swapped out or delisted?
Imo a winning squad can demonstrate to a club the value of departing players. A losing team shows clubs can inherit others problems.

Imagine the hate for Rosa if he gave away 2-3 first rounders for Harley Reid and he lasted one season then walked away to the preseason draft

Despite our lack of on field success we do as well as anyone bar one or two clubs in attracting high profile players to nominate us in trades. Some of those trades haven’t been successful because the players were contracted and their clubs put unrealistic conditions in place. As we have done in the past.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Reid and our club have already reached an agreement. Whether or not that’s our best play I don’t know.

Are we realistically in the hunt for Rowell? I’ve given up on Reid but I love the thought of Rowell in the red and black.

Is certainly prefer Rowell over reid. It means you can well and truly give up on Hobbs and tsatas and leave him in as the midfield brute for the next ten years.

Rowell, Caldwell, Durham, parish and Zach is a nice balanced combo imo

Get some second rounders for Hobbs and tsatas and have another crack at the draft.

I definitely would too. But doubt we’ll ever entice Rowell now … he’s gone to another level that just might net him a Charlie. So Reid it might have to be as the next EFC messiah !

McGrath and Parish just for starters then look at Redman, Hobbs, Tsatas etc

Except Reid is more mature so in all likelihood our 2026 and 2027 picks will deteriorate.

Certainly that’s not what is being reported.

That does look worse than I thought. I had heard that clubs had pushed back on those extra concessions initially so I wonder if the clubs have been offered a sweetener

Not even convinced Tassie will go ahead TBH. The stadium issue is a shambles.

I don’t think after 4 rounds there is much happening in terms of trades. Plenty of speculation driven by the media but that’s it - pure speculation.

That would be a great result for EFC.

Rowell will cost just as many top end draft picks as Reid, 4 years older. Love him but pass for me.

It’s Reid or draft for me.

We should throw some trade tariffs on Melbourne.

Anyone listen to gettable to know what this means?

Cooper Duff-Tytler, who is a possible number 1 draft pick this year, was very nearly part of our NGA. His Dad’s parents are Sri Lankan and his mother (CDT’s grandmother) gave birth to him just one year after they moved to Australia. If his old man had been born in Sri Lanka then CDT would be eligible for our NGA.
