What are people’s thoughts on Max Gruzewski as a mid-sized forward option? 20 years old, averaging 4 goals a game.

Despite what looks like decent form, he’s only played 6 games. Would he be worth a look?
2? No chance. It’s 1 first rounder maximum. Nothing top 3. Right now he’s a half back flanker who does not get many possessions. That’s a pick 50 generally. 1 first rounder is super generous. Top 3 first rounder would be nuts. 2 first rounders would be insane and 3 and I reckon the afl would intervene and forcefully change the board of the football club and take away our independence.
He ain’t going to the Hawks, there’s no way they will have the currency.
I feel it’s either he comes to Essendon end of this year or he plays out his contract at the Weagles and goes to Hawks/Ess/Geel end of 2026.

If an Essendon player was joking just after the siren in a game lost by two points to get your first win Blitzers would want them out of the club. Especially if they thought he’d come back in preseason out of shape.

I agree with @darkknightpheonix. It’s too hard to rebuild via the draft these days. The draft is too compromised.
Good players won’t come to your side if you sit on your hands and say you’re rebuilding
well I mean you could argue that our first round selections and going to the draft haven’t exactly been all that great.

so it’s not as if going to the draft has actually produced great results either in the last 20 years.
My hope going into the future however would be, that the dud wouldn’t be in charge, so hopefully there’ be an improvement on both drafting and trading in guys, hence a healthy combo of both paths would hopefully lead to better results.
If WC did get Bont (can’t see him ever leaving Footscray) they lose compensation for Allen. Big risk for a very young team who are only just starting a rebuild to give up pick 2 for a 30 year old.
I’d give the Melb pick and our first pick up straight swap for Harley. He’s a number 1 pick that has proven he can dominate games.
He’s a little off this year but that’s more than understandable, clearly hates it there and west coast are even more of a rabble than us.
If Melbourne hand us pick 1 or 2 then you would take a real hard look at the draft first.
But it Harley Reid wants out at West Coast and wants to play at Essendon I think you still make a trade happen.
I’d probably trade our pick and next years 1st and take the demons pick to the draft.
Reid, pick 2 from the draft and some of our NGA talent would be a nice haul.
Would have to include pick 2 in any trade for Reid. It would be a top 5 pick plus a later first.
Remember that West Coast rejected a Demons offer of 6, 11 and a future 1st for Reid. They also rejected North’s offer of pick 2, 15 and 17 for Reid.
