Don’t think this is the case at all. The cats thing is purely a guess from Cal. There’s no basis to it apart from it being the club he supported as a kid.
Bryan isn’t worth that much
I thought Houston choose the Dees, then when Petracca, Oliver and Pickett wanted out he changed his mind.
He was planning on Melbourne and then Carlton but Port were upset by Carlton"s “arrogance” in early trade talks so Houston’s focus turned to Collingwood.
Maybe the knock to the head was the reason he is thinking the Bombers.
I think the more I hear about the cats going after Oliver again the more it’s makes me think that Harley is not possible for them.
The cats can’t/shouldnt get both. The salary cap to get both would be very high and the trade capital is also extremely high. The cats are in contention now so Oliver actually makes more sense vs Harley.
If Oliver doesn’t work out for them then they may shift the attention and try to pull of a miracle but it’s very difficult to see how they have the capital for Harley alone let alone Harley and Oliver.
It feels like we have been into Harley for a long time and that it’s between us and the hawks.
You’re a lot more optimistic than I am. Twomey’s comments pretty well confirmed Geelong as the preferred team. Geelong didn’t want Oliver that badly last year and he is even less desirable now. They will take him if they can get a Bowes type trade and Clayton agrees to a pay cut. But IMO Reid is their No 1 target and it’s mutual. I’m actually more interested in Cal’s change of stance on Rowell. He seemed a lot less certain of him re-signing and we have been widely reported as being interested.
Happy with either Reid or Rowell do think we need to get one.
I love him, but that kamikaze style of his is bound to lead to some injuries, particularly with his body shape.
He makes any team better, though we would be served by a bigger mid in our side to support Caldwell & Durham.
How many concussions has Starcevich had, and how many recent games has he missed ?
I’m shocked people want to take a risk with him.
Albeit, he is a fine player and friggin tough at the footy !
I think he’s wrong.
If Harley wants out this year, then the deal has to be appease West Coast…if it doesn’t then they force him to play out his contract.
He suffered 3 concussions inside 8 months.
1 - July 2024 vs Adelaide
2 - Feb 2025 vs Adelaide in pre season game
3 - March 2025 vs Sydney in round 1
WC will play hard ball too
It’s a NO from me.
If a club can get Reid to commit to them then they will do what they need to do to appease West Coast.
Be it Cats, Hawks or whoever.
In the end it come down to where Reid wants to play. Every club has the ability to get it done, that’s why they are interested.
I know that’s how it works, but I don’t see how the Cats can get it done. It will have to mean trading players to get some higher picks in, because their 25, 26 and 27 1st’s surely won’t do it.
So they can get it done.
3 first round picks, maybe a player added. Trade someone else out.
There are always ways to do it
Whoever he chooses (let’s say the Cats) will make the moves necessary to put together a strong offer.
That offer might not be an absolute bounty that goes way over the top that the Eagles would ideally love but it will be strong. The Eagles are then in a position where they have to ponder that if they play hardball and keep him for another year, there is every chance that if he’s mentally checked out, which we have kind of seen signs of already this year, then his worth in 12 months time might have actually tanked further.
Then there’s the culture piece too, it’s dangerous in their position where they are trying to build culture and a team first environment to have a guy who doesn’t want to be there (if that is indeed the case). Especially one who is that much of a media force that it would consume the club every single press conference and media engagement for a further 12 months.
They’d be in a spot where they’d have to weigh all of these kind of things up.
Maybe…Not sure who they trade to get top 10 picks. Of course it can be done but you’re trading some pretty important players to make it happen. I think they’ll find hard.
The Eagles still have him contracted so I’m sure they’re telling his management if it aint X then it aint happening.
Of course it would be hard, but it’s still do-able.
Being able to trade into the future is the game changer. They will trade players out, try and move up the order.
It’s literally what they do for a living and they are good at it. I don’t see any evidence to say they wouldn’t get it done.
They eagles might hold him, but they also might just let him go.
