Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Mannagh is a good player but 28 next year. Not for us.

Probably.

West Coast is also one of their biggest teams as well.

The truth is the AFL’s new rules basically helps any club satisfy a trade for a player. Can trade two future firsts

And then there’s the mooted rule that any out of contract player will be a free agent for Tasmania to help them get setup.

Smartt mid season draft

I’d happily trade two firsts plus a sweetener for Reid considering it’s a weak draft. How do we know it’s a weak draft? Because Essendon have multiple top ten picks in it.

I’ve often wondered if there is some Fibonacci-esque voodoo going on that sees draft quality move in certain cycles or patterns.

If so
we are clearly on the wrong part of every cycle.

Are they even mates, or are they just in a team selection photo together?

Think hawks will pay top $ so they’ll get 2

Lets get Smartt in the mid season draft just to get Reid across the line.

What is Tsatas’ value or what will we accept when he requests a trade at the end of the year?

You will only get a 4th.

Sad, but true.

Not unless he stays in Queensland and signs his kids up the Lions Academy

In a relatively average draft, under contract, we’d still get a 2nd rounder.

Obviously that’d still be an unmitigated disaster if it happened. 3 years after taking a guy pick 5 in a top 10 that had quality after him. But if those at the club have more or less made their mind up (and Elijah doesn’t want to be there) then it might be the best for both parties.

Tsatas would be at best a 2nd rounder, which will be late 30s or 40s this draft.

More likely steak knives in some convoluted multi team deal
