They will get first round compo for Allen. And they will win the spoon

Then they will get two picks for Harley.

So thats 4 early selections.

they won’t

If this was the NBA then the AFL would orchestrate Harley to Essendon as it props up one of its most supported and underachieving teams, in return they would guarantee WC the top pick in the ā€œlotteryā€ or in this case band 1 compo.

However I think we should have been making a tentative approach to Oscar Allen as we do need a 2MP replacement imo and unlike the clubs he is indicating he wants to go to, we could guarantee band 1 compensation for WC which could bring down the trade cost of Reid. But I imagine he has aged out of our preferred targets

fk off day wicks is as tall

The bloke has a degenerative knee condition and plays in probably the second worst position on the field for it, is already 26 years old and has had a single season where he kicked 50+

No one is going to pay him up to $1M a season or sign him for seven years, in order to trigger band 1 compo, it just isn’t gonna happen

We had a 26yr old bloke with osteo pubis, chronic calves and who had only kicked 50+ goals once in his career.

Went for first round compo.

Brisbane manipulated his contract post trade, meaning the deal wouldnt actually have been band 1 compo, which the AFL immediately cracked down on. Not the same situation, and he didn’t have the knees of a 40 year old

Yup agreed

Couldn’t work out how Geelong could this year either facilitate a trade without giving up a good player at least in a trade

Harley Reid 187cm
Archer Day-Wicks 186cm

As it stands now if we give them both our picks

#1
#2 (Allen compo)
#6 (Ess)
#10 (Ess)
#16 (Hawks)

That’s pretty good draft hand

They ain’t getting 2 for Allen. They will get end of first for him

Allen is averaging 0.8 goals a game this year and 1.4 goals a game for his career. Daniher averaged 2 goals a game. No way they are worth the same. interestingly about Daniher:

Played 108 games for Essendon and 96 games For Brisbane so any boys he has are Essendon father/sons under current rules.

I wonder whether it will be a case of the AFL ensuring that ONE of these two things happen for the Eagles:

  1. The club chasing Allen gets somewhere near the ballpark and the AFL fudge the rest and hand them pick 2 (band one compo)

OR

  1. If not even the AFL can fudge this one then the Eagles get end of first round compo for Allen (likely about pick 28 or something) but then they hand them a priority pick. If it’s not pick 1 then it’s something like a mid first round compensation pick (pick 10).

We were looking at Mannagh with our second round pick that year. Absolutely classic Essington that we finish above Geelong that year - despite them smashing us both games.

We then have to trade them our second rounder to get Caddy, and they use our pick to get Mannagh

Backed it up with taking Lual at pick 39, just before Freijah at 45.

Trading back in to get Roberts late (pick 54) however is a huge tick.
