Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

I know you’ve mentioned we would lose Draper compensation if we brought in LDU and lose Sammy, but I’d actually be perfectly fine with that if it meant we brought him in. Any compensation we gain from Draper you’d be very happy if that was used to bring in a player of LDU’s calibre.

Our midfield has a lot of players in it but we really do lack class there still. I hope we are into LDU but I’m guessing the Pies are probably putting together a very good offer for him at years’ end.

There’s a number of things that need to occur for Draper leaving via RFA…

  1. He needs to have a decent year so as to incentivise Adelaide to offer him a boatload.

  2. He has to agree to leave.

  3. $$$ need to be enough to activate Band 1 compo.
I doubt that end of 1st round is enough value.
As frustrating as he is, he can play.

  4. If we get LDU vIa FA, Draper leaving would be highly unlikely.

Your right but to suggest that we should let Merrett go and keep Draper like the comment I replied to suggested was a rubbish take

Losing Draper via FA would provide no benefit or advantage in gaining LDU (apart from salary cap relief).

We can get LDU and keep Draper.
If Adelaide wanted to offer their 1st rounder for Draper (which they won’t), that’s a different story.

Unless they have a good year and think that he is a missing piece

didnt realise rowell was only 1.8m. Thought he was a lot bigger

North apparently offering LDU a 7 year deal to lock him in early

Oh well.
Looks like we’ll have to prize Rowell away from the Suns instead.

We can trump all of dogs, pies, geelong with 2 first rounders hehe

“'Tis!” replied Aunt Helga

Harley Reid is what we need not Rowell.
If only we had a family connection that could get in his ear, and that he could have trained with the side and even run out in the VFL with us before and have plenty of salary cap room. Also wouldn’t hurt if he’s mates with a first round draft pick from his draft year that plays at Essendon already in a prominent forward line role.

If we have Picks 5 (ours) + 7 (Melb’s), should we give up both for Rowell ?

I reckon it’s too much, as much as I like him.

Price is too high.
2 Picks around the Top 5 + Nic Martin.

Nic Martin is probably our closest to future captain.
could be this years brownlow medallist.

3 first rounders should do including pick swaps and or choice of players.
10 Years of Harley Reid would still be worth it.
would pay more in picks than anyone before - Judd, Danger Neale, etc.

It doesn’t matter what we want.

The Eagles would insist on Nic Martin being part of the deal.

Would they though? They would know they could only get a player if that player wanted to go, and Martin has already been rejected by the Eagles (multiple times).

I think West Coast would ask for something like three 1st rounders for Reid, and you probably give it to them. We haven’t had a star player like Reid for a very very long time.

Two 1sts this year and our 1st next year. Pick swaps etc too.

lol I like Martin but he’s nowhere near Brownlow territory.

He’s a very good footballer that we should have more of if our recruitment was better.

The Eagles seem to have a battle on their hand to keep Allen.

Could be worth going after Harley but I think it would have to be something other than money.

West Coast will have that bit wrapped up.

I wonder if there’s Eagles fans looking at that dreaming of poaching Caddy?

Honestly can’t see anyway Martin isn’t part of the deal.
3 x First Round picks, particularly when they’re all in the Top 10 is a helluva lot of risk in 1 player.

The idea of what Reid could be is extraordinary.
He may not get there though.
