Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

We can do that too most likely finish bottom 5 in 2026 and the picks we have will trump what ever Geelong can muster

It would be nice to land a big fish but if we ended up closing some gaps and strengthening some deficiencies instead this year and next, we’ll get one sooner or later.

3 first rounders in a covid draft

2 first rounders potentially 3 (Draper compo) in a compromised draft.

Alway getting farked over

No, it’s our own stupidity that Farks us over.
Stop blaming everyone else for this stupid clubs mistakes

How is it the clubs fault if the draft is compromised

There is going to a lot of clubs trading out of this years draft no one rates it

Technically we’re contributing to it with two academy prospects of our own. Not really anybody’s fault, though.

Dont Gold Coast have another 3 nga’s that a rated inside the top 15

Brisbane have 2 iirc

Also Pies have a f/s thats rated highly

I wouldnt be against trading one of our firsts for 2026 draft

It’s our fault because in other years we have constantly refused to bottom out and we consistently finish in no man’s land which means we miss out on the pointy end of the draft. Sometimes you have to cop your medicine and finish bottom 4.
If we finish bottom 4 this year we will still have a very decent pick but with our stupidity we will win just enough games to finish outside the bottom 4 again

5 or 6 of the currently ranked top 10 aren’t tied to any academies or father sons.
The whole thing is a bit of a beat up.
Yes it’s compromised but still plenty of quality

Richmond could win that match and it’s Sydney away so could lose both

Plus if we were any good at scouting we would know to spread the risk by trading out of those drafts where the talent is either thin or holds too many unknowns.

We had an opportunity to trade out of 2020 by following through with the Dunkley trade but Dudoro choked.

Wonder if WCE might be mildly more ok trading Harley this year - more leverage whilst he’s under contract but more importantly, looking like a good year for a WA club to go to the draft.

Might exceed Richmond from last year with

  • Own first
  • Hawks first-
  • FA pick for their captain-
  • Harley bonanza

From @CJohns

Robertson should have went to WA last year. not getting opportunities at Brisbane and won’t. They are adding another top 10 pick midfielder.

Erasmus is also another WA player Eagles could be interested in.

they also could be involved in the Reid trade.

I think let’s see what happens at the end of the year. This kind of PR from Reid management is much better for him to have less media speculation for the remainder of the year. If he doesn’t sign an extension which looks incredibly unlikely I would suggest come end of the WC season this might be very active again.

Wouldn’t those arguments have applied to Hogan when he went to Fremantle?

Given Bewick’s trajectory we’ll need that pick for points.

May hasn’t got long left, in my book.

Rookie Me Central has 4 NGA kids in their top 8, including 3 in their top 5.

Add in a WCE compo pick for Allen and if the draft order remained the same now, our first pick (linked to the Dees) blows out from pick 5 to 10. Our next pick (currently 9) could end up being 15 on the night.

So I guess the question is how highly do we rate the quality and depth of the first round in the 10-15 range.
