Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Not much different to Bailey Smith Sal, but once he checked in at Geelong he was raring to go.

Once Harley checks in at a side that he has chosen, in the state where he actually wants to be, he will work tirelessly for that club to ensure he becomes the success everyone expects him to be. I don’t believe he’ll be playing simply for his own personal gain, as playing at a big club and leading that club to success is the pinnacle.

We are prime candidates for someone to stamp their mark.

AFL article has us as one of the 5 clubs interested in Miles Bergman.

I think he would be a great acquisition for one of our first rounders if the Reid deal doesn’t happen.

Big explosive off half back as well as a penetrating kick. With midfield scope now as well he is an exciting prospect at 23.

Yes to Bergman, but on the proviso we can give Shiel a 1 game contract next year so we can play the full set.

100%. We need pace, pace and more pace. We’re one of the slowest, if not the slowest team going around. Teams regularly kick to space against us because they know this

List of mids that Cal thinks are gettable also thinks Tsatas the likely to go out of him and Hobbs.

I like Hustwaite.

Niall (who is historically very accurate) going with Reid staying at least for another year.

We hate kicking. We are looking for hand ballers.

Would indicate he has zero intention of coming to us I’d say.
Not the worst thing in the world, as fun as it might have been, at least for a while.

It’ll be Geelong if he stays

Fantastic news.

Not necessarily he may still have us ans option next year

If he was keen on us, knowing we have the currency this year to trade he’d look for a move.

It’s not happening.

I think if he wanted to play for us he’d have pushed for an exit this year given we have the draft capital guaranteed to get it done. Leaving it another year gives Geelong every opportunity to stack up their picks for next year. If he does extend; it’s over Nino.

He’s already contracted for next year, any indication “might” want to stay for that could also just be a way to take pressure off

Avoids the need to sign anything Eagles have put in front of him for extension which they’d be pushing ongoing and he could just get on with his footy

Also might be being advised by manager to get the media to relax a bit on it

If he is intending to come back still think that happens this year and West Coast would rather it given can make most of him still being contracted

Taking this article as uninformed clickbait.

Niall’s assumption that his 2026 contract means there’s no pressure on West Coast to trade him this year is bullshit.

A contracted player means the club has more negotiating power!

Uncontracted there’s always the threat of the player walking.

We would be well placed to deal for him in 2026.
We could offer 2026 first round and 2027 first round.
We won’t be able to use the 2027 pick given Bewick’s trajectory.

Maybe him staying is an indicator that our draft team have finally grown up and told him that we wont be bothering to get it done for anything more than 2 first rounders…

One can hope…

Reid would have been nice but we’re looking at Bewick and possibly Rodan in 2027 draft. We’re blooding some talented players this year, so get a few quality kids this year and next and the future is looking bright with or without Harley.

Maybe it’s an indicator that afl clubs aren’t particular enthused by this upcoming draft in which Essendon has a couple of early-ish picks?
